Im guessing the USB port on this is located in the rear on the unit? Then run it into the glove box to keep it out of the way till needed? Regardless does anyone know if you can take an extrernal drive and hook to it and work ok?

For example you can now buy a USB 2.0 External Hard Drive 40,60GB ect in a small case. The only power it needs is from the USB port no external power needed. So im curious to know if you can plug the same device into the Kenwood USB port and work ok?

Also I have a JVC DVD player now it tills upward but NOT downward. Does the Kenwood unit screen move positions downward for viewing?

Yes you can hook a HDD up to the 7100. I dont know the exact specs on what works. Maybe KC will comment with the details.

Yes the DNX will do a negative tilt.

Man that would be sweet if I can! I was going to buy the Pioneer AVIC-3 but if the Kenwood will let me hook up an external hard drive thats really for me having the USB port. Plus I dont have to switch out CD/DVDs. Then I can add all my MPS on it as well as my divix movies. It would be much easier adding a 60 GB external drive and copy all my mps and movies to it then burn CD/DVDS. How good are the Kenwood Stereo as far as music sound?? I have 2 amps,sub componets ect.

Ive seen the Kenwood DNX7100 unit for as low as $900.00. Is that about as cheap as Im going to find it?

DNX7100 will not play movies or any video files off your hard drive. Also, it will not power all hard drives. I got my dnx7100 for $885 about a month ago but prices range from $900 to $1100. G/L with your purchase.

 

a regular hadrdrive wont work cause it sucks more power than the USB can provide.youll have to buy an older laptop type harddrive(the new ones 2.5 wont work either).i think its the 3.3 laptop harddrive that will work cause it consumes the same power that the USB can provide.

I never heard of a 3.3 laptop drive. Any chance you have a link to what one looks like or a link to more information on this?

But you can plug in a USB stick like a 2GB and play MP3s from it correct? Also does it play most divix movies ok without any problems?

3.3 hard drivers are from older laptops but I believe (some ) of the new 2.5 laptop hard drives will work with the DNX7100.

Yes, you can use an USB stick to play MP3s and this is the only way also to upload your personal background images. I heard that it plays Divix movies without a problem on dvd media.

I have only the factory speakers and the dnx was an improvement over the stock stereor but will be upgrading all speakers soon to include an amp and subs.

I have a 5th generation 80GB ipod and I have a bunch of videos and music and the dnx plays them wonderfully with the add on ipod connector.
