circuit city....

should i trust them to install some parts? i have the eclipse avn5510 installed already from a capable shop, but now i want to add the eclipse cd changer i bought and add the sirius tuner. i cant seem to get timing nailed down with the first shop. it seems pretty easy, and very quick imo...though i have no intentions of doing it myself. i know they have a rep of adding stuff you dont need, and my system is pretty good right now....i dont need them ********** my stuff up. thanks in advance.

Me personally? I'd look for another shop. Their installers tend not to do the greatest of work! I've seen some hack jobs from them as well as Best Buy. Have it done at a true professional place. JMHO.

I would just go talk to them first and find out how good they are you will be able to tell by getting them to explain it to you.

On another note...could you post some picks off your head unit...that is the head unit I want to put in my truck. What are the ups and downs of it that you have noticed since you put it in.

TIA

The best way WOULD be to talk to them, every circuit city is different. The good thing though is that if they mess something up, they have lifetime install warranty nationwide. so if that particular shop hacks up your system you could take it to another CC and not have to pay to have it fixed.

coming from a circuit city installer, its real hit or miss. there are good installers and there are hacks. in my staff there is my sup. who has done car audio for about 15+years (who competes in sound q and is sponsored by jl audio and hybrid audio,) myself who has done car audio for about 3 years, and then 2 other installers that are complete hacks. one installer we have could not figure out how to use ford keys to get a radio out. its all in what store you go to and who you get.

Stores like Circuit City and Best Buy are more concerned about turnover than quality, I have always felt. Smaller shops can be this way, too, which is why I drive almost 40 minutes to find a decent shop to buy stuff from.

I personally wouldn't let Circuit City touch my car, nor Best Buy. I went into a Best Buy and tried to buy a wiring harness, but was told they could not sell it to me unless I bought a radio and paid for the installation. I laughed and left. Circuit City has been willing to sell me dash kits and wiring harnesses, but still don't trust their installers without talking to them. I would talk to their installer(s) and ask about their MECP credentials ... if they baulk at the question, go elsewhere.

I met an installer while buying some stuff from a local electronics store (PC Richards in the NYC metro area) who was an excellent installer and very knowledgeable, of course he was MECP. Probably the closest I have ever come to letting a large electronics store chain work on my car.

Circuit City doesnt acknowledge MECP. However, between the three guys at my shop we have over 27 yrs of combined car audio. I am the only one MECP certified (because I wanted it). Another guy, has had over 15 awards from vendors. Our bay is well known for quality work in the area. We do anything from fiberglassed kicks to radios.

Its all hit or miss like someone said. Just catch the public opinion. If you know ppl that walk away pissed off (and not just because of price) find another one.
