The Paperweight

I just want to send everyone a warning if you are thinking of purchasing an OEM navigation upgrade from eBay. I found the perfect navigation unit on eBay. The seller had great feedback and stated it was recently removed and in perfect working order. It was also removed from the exact same model of my F150. (King Ranch / Audiophile w/ sub / steering controls)

I get the navigation unit a week later, plug it in and immediately I notice there is no Ford logo during the startup, just a completely blank screen. I start pushing some buttons, and I hear the radio, but still no picture. After taking it out and checking all the connections, fuses, and anything else I can think of, the only thing staring back at me is a blank screen. I have determined that the only thing this unit will do well is play the radio, if you don't mind not knowing what station you are on.

I emailed the seller and he accuses me of switching out his working nav with a non functional one. He also said I could have also exchanged the core with a broken one. I am not ashamed to admit that I would not even know where to begin to try and perform a "core exchange".

Long story short, he will not provide a refund, and the fate of my hard earned funds is now in the hands of the Pay Pal resolution center. I really hope this all works out. I do not need anymore paperweights!!

some factory headunits have a security feature that may have disabled alot of the functions. I dont know much about the newer stuff, if they do or not

I was upgrading from the original 6 disk/MP3 to the nav system, so the ID numbers would not match anyway.

Lightbulb All may not be a total loss.

I just did the same thing, baught a Nav out of a 2007 Expedition, plugged it in only got the logo, no sound, so display, nothing, these units have to be programmed to your specific vehicle. I sent mine to Dominic at Automotive Resource Center, great people, fast service, same day programming, if they get it before 2pm, its reprogrammed and shipped out the same day. Give them a call and tell them the model number of the Navigation system, and the model of your Truck, and they'll tell you if its worth programming... I'll bet its a programming issue...! I got mine from a local radio shop, it worked in the original vehicle, but would not work in my truck until I had it programmed, now it works as good as new... Well it is new... Good luck~Tazzman

$100 plus shipping... Not too bad I guess.

Danman unfortunately in this case the screen is out. If it were a programming issue it would either power up completely or not. Tazzman the 07 expedition has a canbus ignition signal thats why your radio would not turn on at all. In Danmans case the radio turns on, just no screen, there is no combination of programming that could cause this.

Why bother with adding OEM nav? In most cases it's more expensive and less functional then aftermarket nav. Go buy a Kenwood, Elipse, or Alpine. Install is easy and you can load custom splash screens with the ford/f150 logo of your choice. You can reuse your steering wheel controls and factory amp and subs. Install isn't too bad, only took me an afternoon and the Eclipse 5510 is way better then an OEM nav.

Go report the sale as fraud to ebay/paypal and your credit card company

Just my 2 cents

The factory ford has a 6disc changer and if properly programmed its a straight plug in. You can maintain the factory sirius and aux input as well as factory sub and steering wheel controls with no additional hardware or wiring. If you get a new one from me it also has a complete warranty.

Thanks for the info nothinbutford. I was hoping that it could be a programming problem after reading Tazzman's response, but I spoke to someone from the Automotive Resource Center this morning and they told me the exact same thing. If I can get my money back I will be calling you for a new navigation unit with a warranty.

I Have eBay Buyers Remorse!!!!

why factory is better...
1. fits perfect, no little filler plates
2. matches perfect, plastic color, texture, and night illuminations
3. has 2 drives.one for nav disc and 6 more disc above....alot of other units have one disc drive and its either used as nav or cd not both at the same time like factory...
4. all facotry controls work like they should
5. when bought with vehicle have warranty with the vehicle.
6. signal is better than most aftermarket units...and when signal is week or not recieving, it pulls info from wheels and steering to keep you close to where you are...meaning it will still navigate if you are not getting a signal due to buildings, mountains, ect....

yes some can be bought for less...but i have found you have to start looking at units that start at $2000 and up to outperform the stock unit...the $1000 will not beat a factory unit....then the $1000 unit needs atleast $300 in wiring harness and adapter plates and the "extras" to make it work with sat radio, steering wheel controls, and factory speakers if you have audiophile

you forget that they won't steal it as they would an aftermarket unit

If you look on e-bay, there (from time to time) are new and used faces for the factory radios - there is one on there today (it has a few scratches), BUT if your unit is working less the display, this might be a better alternative than the paperweight.... just my 2 cents..... And in my experience, this is a truly dead display.

If the touch screen responds (it will beep in certain settings), then it may be a simple ccd tube (the backlight) that has to be replaced - I've never done one in one of these units, but have on plenty of LCD monitors..
