Anyone here install their AVIC-D3 and did you do the mute bypass?
Just like the title reads. I've been browsing AVIC411.com and read about the bypass. I'm ordering my AVIC-D3 today and am thinking about doing the install myself.
Question: I have audiophile and read that I'll need a 5ohm resistor, Im assuming I can pick this up at Radio Shack. I'm not by any means an electrician and my electrical experience is limited to changing bulbs....Any quidance/recommendations would be appreciated.
Thanks
Also, does the mounting kit with the unit fit our trucks or do I need to purchase a different one?

Install was a breeze, same as any other headunit really. Yes use the bypass from avic411.com worked for me and easy to do. im not sure of the resistor part but i don't have the built in subwoofer. You will need a mounting kit. i used the metra double din. and it worked out great.
don't sweat the install, it is very easy...as long as you order the correct harness's it is a piece of cake...since you have the audiophile make sure you get the additional harness, other wise your sub will not work...yes radio shack should have a resistor...you do need to be careful when removing the mute wire for the bypass...i used a very very small screwdriver to lift the clip then gently pull the wire out.
the vss wire is a bit tricky...do you plan on using a reverse cam?

no, no reverse cam. I just want a nav system and for my factorty audiophile to work properly.\
As far as harnesses and mount go, would you all happen to have the part #'s or a page I can go to order them. I'm purchasing the unit from bestbuy.com

Probably a stupid question, what resister...5 ohm by ? watts...I've seen a couple on line but which one. I ended up cancelling the bestbuy order and went with Crutchfield. They're offering a free reverse camera, so I will end up having one after all.

You installed an aftermarket radio and hooked it up to your stock speaker system. Now your factory subwoofer pops when you turn your vehicle on.
If so it could be caused by an improper voltage going to the factory amplifier. This is generally the case with aftermarket head units and newer Ford products. Aftermarket head units will send a 12V signal to turn on the amplifiers. Some Ford factory amplifiers (and possibly other makes as well) need 5V other wise they produce a loud pop when they are turned on.

if you are ordering from crutchfield then you don't need any part numbers for the harness's etc... you went throught the vehicle selection process correct? and you selected factory sub correct? if you did the selection at crutchfield you will get all the correct harness's.
i don't know which wire is the reverse wire for our trucks, so you will have to ask someone over at avic411...i do know that it is down under the drivers side kick panel, but don't know what color it is.
as for the resistor, i can't help you, i don't have the factory sub.
also you do know that this unit is only a single dvd drive unit correct? makes it kind of a pain, you must program your route before you can listen to your cd's, and if the route is long it may ask for the nav disc again....but if you have an ipod the problem is solved.

Thanks for the link, and yes I did order from Crutchfield and no longer need the install kit/harnesses. I posted the thread when I had initially ordered though Bestbuy but another poster referred me to Crutchfield who had it for 100.00 less, free camera and all the install items. Only thing I needed was the resistor, which I just ordered.
Yes, Iam aware of the single drive, but that was ammo to justify a 12-disc cd changer to the wife....she likes cd's and I like XM and local programming.
Thanks to all for the help.

not a problem...let us know if you run into any problems with the install, but like i said before it is very easy...oh i forgot to mention the dimmer wire, make sure you hook that sucker up, otherwise the unit will blind you at night.
