What have you guys done to hide your nav?

After getting broken into once, i dont want it to happen again. What have you guys done to hide your navigation? I wish our cars had something like the little flap that comes down of radios in other cars to hide if there is a nice navigation or just a cheap radio

One of my first mods was a 2 way lcd alarm. For some reason I see people getting thousands of dollars in upgrades to there truck/car and have no alarm. I just dont understand that.

Can't really think of anything. What I did was install a single din head unit that had navigation in it with a removable face plate. cost me $650.00 and was easy to install. I take the faceplate in w/ me every night. I don't have an alarm sys. because I've never felt the need for one since I live in a rural area, but I should probably invest in one as my truck doesn't always sit in front of my house.

With so many false alarms everyday, does anyone even bother looking anymore if an alarm goes off? Maybe after 10 minutes because the siren is beginning to annoy someone, but the crook is long gone with your nav and other goodies.

Put the siren in the cab. Ever try to work or even do anything with 117+ decibel siren going off in an enclosed area? Your equilibrian is totally shot to he!!. The only thing a crook will do is bail out and go find another truck to vandalize.

Silent alarm - in the local paper, I read where gang members were trying to steam a guys BMW 750. The silent alarm went off, he ran out and scared them away. Next night his silent alarm again went off, he ran out. As he passed his hedge he was greeted by a shotgun blast to his lower back, killing him instantly. Yeah, I'll stop a thief. I learned how real good in the Marines. But, my truck is not worth my life, thats what the insurance is for.

In a friends car I went and got a sheet of 1/8" thick plastic from the hobby store. Cut it to cover the radio and painted it black. Drilled a hole in it towards the bottom and attached an old radio harness and antena extension to the plastic. His windows were tinted and even during the day if he put the piece on it simply looked like the radio was pulled out and all that was in there was the wiring. We did have to fab up brackets to sit the nav unit about 3/4" further into the dash to make it look right but none the less anyone who did not know would have thought there was no radio in there.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, that said just be aware of where you are. I see kids all the time riding around parking lots trying to show off blasting their radios, or the kids with the JL, Polk, stereo shop where they had the work done, ect. stickers all over the front and back glass of their ride. To me its just advertising to the theif that you have something he might want.

I know some of you guys in here have pretty extensive stereo systems, wheels, lift kits ect. You might want to get on the phone with your insurance company and get their take on what is and is not covered. Alot of companies will only cover stock parts, so if your $1500 navi unit is taken you are only getting paid for what ever was in the dash when you took delivery of the truck.I carry an additional policy on my car that covers any aftermarket parts, stereo systems, even merchandise and person property that I leave in the car. I think I pay like an extra $35.00 every 6 months for it or something like that. I have Allstate which is one of the biggest in the auto insurance game and their policy states replacement of factory items only and in the event that you replaced a factory item with something else you are entitled to the value of the factory item.

Being that almost everybody on these forums advertise what they have, plus the fact that those that advertise also have gallary pics with their license plates, it should make for easy pickens. That is, if one was a thief.

Better wear some Kevlar around my truck, kus if you get near it, you will have 13 holes of .45 ACP in you.

I have an alarm and it tells me if someone is in the truck, not to mention, smile while you are there...a camera will take your picture....that will be the last you or a thief smiles.
