Want dvd/nav help
Want dvd/nav help
Ok ive been searching and reading and getting confused. Im looking for a unit like the new Pioneer D3. What Im looking for is a unit that will display Nav while the kids watch movies in the back or play the radio while the kids watch movies.
Also want a back up camera and Sat. radio ready. I dont have an Ipod yet. I dont want to add an amp to the speaker so the radio should be decent. All for under $1000. Can someone please suggest a decent unit. Thank in advance.

Well, the new IWA-205 from Alpine can do everything you're asking, and it will probably be priced for under a grand. (won't be released until later this spring so price isn't totally firm yet) But in order to take advantage of the nav options, you need to spend another couple of hundred for the Blackbird handheld nav unit that actually docks inside the headunit.
I know this isn't as cheap as you were thinking, but I myself am going to be going this route because I have the same requirements you do, which this unit offers. Plus (and if you travel, this is a big plus) the blackbird nav unit can operate seperately from the head unit, and can go with you anytime you take a trip, or take someone else's car. When it's docked, though, you'd never know they were two seperate units.

You can get the Panasonic model CQ-VD6503U and you can do it I think. There is a mode that mutes the rear speakers, and if the rear passengers are wearing headphones they can hear what they are watching on the monitors in the back, while you are listening to what you are doing up front on the front speakers. Other head units may be able to do this as well, but I know for sure the Panasonic model will do this.
I know the kenwoods will do that. My unit listed in my sig will display nav with the kids watching a movie in the back on the headrest monitors. Plus it has all the bells and whistles. I got mine from onlinecarstereo as a refurb unit with a additional 3 year warranty
