Listening to Sirius while nav map is up?

I'm considering upgrading my Kenwood flip screen w/Sirius to a Kenwood DVD w/nav system. I have asked a few tech's, but no one could tell me a definite answer. These are the parts:KVT-617DVD in-dash DVD player and
KNA-G510 navigation system. I would like to leave the nav system running at all times but I want to be able to listen and change stations in Sirius. The tech seemed to think that if in nav mode, you get no Sirius and if I want to listen to Sirius, then no nav. Each system is it's own mode per se.
That defeat's my purpose. I'll look into a Garmin if that is the case.
The other down side is that I have to get a newer Sirius tuner as mine works only on 02 to 04 Kenwoods.
The advantage to just getting a Garmin is I can transfer it between the truck and my patrol car.
Thanks in advance!

I have the Kenwood DDX6019 and KNAG510. I have a seperate Sirius tuner (Starmate Replay) which I installed in the ashtray. The tuner is hooked up through the auxillary plug in the Kenwood headunit. You can listen to Sirius while the navigation is running. The map will stay displayed and the channel for Sirius can be changed via the tuner without music being interrupted. If you're getting voice prompted navigation directions, the music will lower to allow you to hear the voice prompt (this feature can be turned off). Let me know if u need more info.
