factory nav--worth it?

I'm getting ready to order my new 07 KR and was just wondering what some of you think who have the factory navigation unit. Is it worth the extra $2K? How user friendly is it? Anybody know if you can hook in a line for a rear camera? Would it be better to get an aftermarket unit that could also function as a dvd player? It seems like the factory unit would probably have neater lines and a better match with the interior. Thanks in advance for the help!

Sean

I was planning on getting it when I purchase a new 07 in the next few months. I read a review of the system (don't remember where) that said it was one of the easiest to navigate out of all the systems tested.
I travel for work and waist a ton of gas missing my destination - so I hope it helps.
The only confusing thing is it is called a navigation/dvd system and I don't think you can play dvds on it.

not no but hell no. For 2k you can get a VERY nice aftermarket unit with all the bells and whistles. Kenwood, Alpine, Clarion, Pioneer, Eclipse, Panasonic, ect., ect., all make aftermarket nav units with DVD players. I don't like the look of the factory nav compared to most aftermarkets.

If I was to buy again I would probably get a Clarion MAX675DV

ive been told by several people that there is a wire to either cross, add or remove, dont remember and it will then play dvd's but they wasnt allowed to release them from the factory to play the dvds because they are mounted up front and would cause a distraction to the driver, but you just need tofix that one wire. there is a shop here in louisville that said they can do it in just a few mins so it cant be much.

I'd love to get that info! I also have a couple of Garmin 2720's. The factory system is hobbled by the goverment "protection" stuff. You can't put in a destination while on the move, etc. I'm thinking someone out there will come up with a fix for that. Otherwise the unit is quite nice. Good sound, large screen, and looks at home in the dash. It is made by Pioneer. You could also order 1 from nothingbutaford on this forum and save a buck or two by putting it in yourself. Plug and play in about 5 min.

I love mine. Stock looks classier as it fits perfectly into the dash.

For me it was worth it and it is very very user friendly and of course being factory it compliments the rest of the interior.

You also got to love the Big Ford oval that comes up on the screen when you shut the unit off. I bleed Ford Blue so that was the must have for me.

Thanks for the replies. From what I've read on some of the other threads, it sounds like getting video on the factory nav screen for either a dvd player or a rearview camera is not easy to do and is going to be a while in coming.

I've talked to a couple of companies about the backup cam/video input, right now they don't have anything but they are working on it. Bowmanmd I can set you up for a lot less on a ford nav for that truck, and still have the full warranty. Give me a shout @ 978-815-5111.

As soon as someone figures out how to hook a backup camera in these units I will be contacting Nothinbutaford to get one!

Just got my 2007 w/ Nav. This is my 3rd nav (Volvo-wife's & BMW M5- family sports car) and seems to be the easiest to use- this is my first touch screen. My Dodge Ram that I just got rid of didn't have navigation.

I don't like that it doesn't include Bluetooth, iPod (w/ text), or HD radio.

I didn't research the aftermarket brands before I got mine with the oem, but I believe there is an Alpine or something else that has all this or allows you to add all of this easily. Also- very importantly- the factory sound system- sounds like S***.

Overall, I like the oem, except I am spending hundreds more to add the Parrot 3100 bluetooth and waiting for a solution for the iPod w/ text (the line in will have to do for now).

Nothinbutaford, How exactly do you keep factory warranty on this? Do you mean on truck itself or on unit? My local dealer told me they won't warranty unit purchased elsewhere and Ford itself told me that when i called.
