Question about In-Dash Navigation
Question about In-Dash Navigation
Hello everyone
I'm new to the forum so I have spent the last couple of hours searching around.
I have some questions about In-Dash Navigation/DVD players. Maybe someone can help?
First off, which company makes the OEM In-dash Nav?
Second, does anyone recomend the OEM over the Pioneer, Eclipse, etc.?
Thirdly, I have a 2004 F-150, will 2005,06,07 OEM In-dash Nav be compatible with my 04 truck?
I have read a lot on the Crutchfield website and have compared the Pioneers with the Eclipse's. However, I saw on some threads that some people have found the OEM in-dash Navs on ebay and bought those instead.
Just trying to get some feedback and opinions on the whole thing before I make a purchase.
Thanks
Rich

What is the deal with some navigation units not allowing you to navigate or change destinations while you are driving?
If thats the case, which units do allow you total control while driving?

I think it's by law, or the fear of being sued, that all nav systems have that safety feature. But you can easily over ride or turn off that option on nearly all systems. I don't know if that lays true for the OEM system.
I wouldn't spend the money on a factory nav system nor recommend it over aftermarket. I personally think the factory system looks hidious and I would rather have all the features an aftermarket unit can provide.
Is there a goal beyond adding in navigation? If all your wanting is GPS get a small GPS receiver. I have a Garmin c340 in the wifes truck and she uses it daily as a sales rep and loves it.

the unit is made by pioneer but shares little with their aftermarket pieces.
Second, does anyone recomend the OEM over the Pioneer, Eclipse, etc.?
Depends on what else you want from your stereo system. The factory unit (properly programed) will retain all features of your truck with no additional wiring or boxes. It does have a built in 6disc changer. Going aftermarket will give you the ability to add other items like amplifiers, easier. However retaining things like steering wheel controls or factory sub requires more wiring and additional pieces.

Again if properly programmed all of your functions will be retained.

Be careful with ebay units, most if not all are programmed for different vehicles and will not retain all of your stock functions, or may not work at all.
