It is a great system! I just purchased it a few weeks ago and it works wonderfully, the only thing I have a problem with is that the Navigation disk is about a year old, so it is missing some of the new buildings and roads that have just been built, and to get the new version of the disk is around $330, however this is the same for almost all of the navigation systems. I would definitely recomend the Eclipse AVN5435 though if you are interested in a good multimedia unit. As for being able to hook it up to a flip down monitor I am fairly certain it can be wired to it and play dvd's to the passengers in the back. It is very simple and easy to use plus its fun just to see the routes it can give you, i.e. the other day it gave me four different routes and the distance from my home in SC to New York City and the estimated driving time. Also with the POI (Point of Interest Icons) you dont even need to know the exact address of the place you are trying to get to( as log as this place is a hotel, restraunt, retail store, almost any business, but just not private resideces) I hope that gave you some idea of how the unit is and if you have any questions, just ask!
