Eclipse AVN5495 or Pioneer AVIC-Z1
Eclipse AVN5495 or Pioneer AVIC-Z1
Eclipse AVN5495 or Pioneer AVIC-Z1 That is the question? Vehicle is a 2005 FX4 SuperCrew. I am stuck on which unit to buy. I would like to get some feedback from the pros (and end users). I will be installing myself-I am a security installer (mostly commercial grade security equipment-iris/fingerprint readers, cctv, card access...). Looks like they need to work on that lens for the Pioneer-I will retrofit a day/night ex-view cam with the install. Also, I do Sirius, not XM. Ipod-don't care.
Thanks for your responses in advance.

Well this topic has been reviewed several times but overall it comes down to several key differences:
Z1:
7" Z1 vs. 6.5" AVN
11 Million POI for (much more than AVN)
Smart Routing
Voice Control
BT
More map view options
Navtaffic
Roadside Assistance Display
Not sure if you are talking about the rear-view camera, but my pioneer one works fine day and night
AVN:
Memory Stick
HD Radio
I think more space for music on HDD
Wireless Remote option
Quicker Startup
Green lights match interior
Clearly I do not know all the benefits of the AVN because I do not own one. Nonetheless both are very good products and you would not be disspointed in either one. G'luck with deciding. Installation isn't that bad. If you go for the Z1 there is a fairly decent posting in this forum with plenty of pictures.

Thanks for your response Steve. So I take it you are happy with the unit? By concave lens, I mean inward/outward bulge of the glass surface. In other words, I want to see what the human eye sees. I can take care of that with a retrofit cam. What kind of connection is there for the camera?

Lol probably a bit late now, but just to reassure you, yes I am very satisfied with the H/U. It would be absolutely perfect if the iPod controls were "real-time" but fortunately you don't have to live with that problem. That's an excellent deal. Congrats and let us know how it goes.
