Question 2005 King Ranch Audio

I just bought a 2005 King Ranch F150....Im putting in the Eclipse 5500 DVD/Navi unit to control my audio needs and the dvd player that my truck already has hanging from the ceiling....my questions are: how do i make my Eclipse unit control the factory overhead flip down dvd player? what size subwoofers should i get to go in the truck (im thinking two 10 inch subwoofers) and where is the best place to put them? what about mounting the amplifier? should i build a custom box or does anyone know of a box already made for my model truck? im also going to put exhaust on it and was wondering if anybody had heard how 4"tips sound?

Thanks for all your help,
Jarrett Vickers

There are a couple of things you can do to keep the dvd working. It may be as simple as powering up the green w/black wire in the aux harness for the stock radio, it is bunched with a blue w/pink and a tan w/I think yellow. If that works than you are all set if not then you have to relocate your stock radio and wire up the constant, ignition, and ground as well as the three wires listed above. You can get an audio out from that aux plug to feed into the AVN and listen to the video in the VTR mode I would suggest useing a ground loop isolator for that to eliminate altinator whine. If you tell me what wires are on that plug I can give you what each one is for that output. Generally they are red, white, orange, and yellow, if my memeory serves correctly. You would tie these for wires onto a set of RCA ends to make them work. Metra makes a harness adapter to plug into the stock radio as well as into the stock harness so you won't have to butcher the wires all up. This may seem like a lot but its really not that bad. I do it all the time. The F150 is easy to do this with because there is a ton of room in the dash to hide the stock radio. When I do this to explorers I have to strip the pcboard out of the stock radio to fit it because its so cramped in there. If you need help just post or pm me. Hope this helps

thanks a lot

i talked to stereo sales...a local company...and they said that they would have no problem doing that....i just ordered the eclipse avn5500 on ebay brand new today for 1100 bucks.....they also said that they would try to hook up my xbox 360....do you know anything about how to hard wire the power cord, video cables, etc.....also where do you think would be a good place to locate it in the 05 supercrew? Also do you know anything about the JL stealth box with a 10w3 in it? Do you think that will give me a good sounding bass (not too much but definately enough)? I really appreciate your help...you got some badass install jobs...i especially like that VW with the 17" screens that retract into the back of the seat...thats dope

keep up the good work
