Exclamation Official Panasonic CQ-VD6503U double din unit thread!

Well i finally got my Panasonic double din DVD player installed. I used the Scorche kit as the Metra kit makes it stick out 1/2". I also used the Metra wiring harness.

I installed the Panasonic expansion module (CY-EM100U) & the Bluetooth kit in the huge hole behind our dash.

As for the microphone i installed it at the top of the A-piller, and the Bluetooth button beside the climate controls.

I will be installing the DVD changer, Satelite radio (Sirrious), Backup camera, and the Navigation module as soon as i can get them. I will also be adding head rest monitors for the kids.

I am still using my factory audiophile sub, and am pleasently impressed with the sound that is now coming out of my componet Polk speakers. I thought the audiophile setup was good, but now its much much better. I am still planning on adding a new sub and 2 new amps to run the new sub and my polk speakers.

My factory back up sensor still works, as i wasnt sure it would as it ran through the factory radio before.

I also bypaased the Unit so that my wife can watch DVD's while we are driving. We just grounded the parking brake wire supplied by the headunit.

The Bluetooth hands free option is awesome, it automatically mutes the radio for incoming or outgoing calls.

As i get more items i will update this thread, and my gallery.

I didnt bother going into the details on the installation as the details are very well explained here in many other threads.

Nice looking install.

Where did you pick up the Scosche kit?

I have Metra kits and a single Din Scosche kit and I really prefer the Scosche in the single over the Metra and if I can look at before buying I may switch to the Double Din Scosche from the double din Metra.

I picked up the Scorsche kit from the guys who installed my deck. It really lets you tweak the depth of the head unit as much as you would like. I am very happy as now it looks like it belongs there.

Well i have since added a back up camera to the unit. This unit has an option to leave the back up camera on all the time, which is kinda kool. All the radio controls are overlayed when needed. I have given up on getting the nav unit for it along with most of the other accessories for it as it seems Panasonic isnt interested in selling or supporting this head unit anymore. I wish i had known this when i bought the unit in the first place. I was told for multiple sources including both the US and Canadian websites that all the accessories would be available.

I have managed to track down the Sirrius and Ipod accessories from Crutchfield. The DVD changer is not so easy to track down. The Nav unit is probably a pipe dream as i doubt they will be bringing it here with the way they have bailed on the head unit.

Well after weeks of waiting for a reply from Panasonic about the availability of the accesories that were to be released with the head unit, this is what they just told me was available.
CXDP801U - No longer available
SIR-PAN1 - available thru Sirus model number SIRPAN1
CY-TUN153U - not available
CYPA2003U - not available
CYAP4003U - not available
Navigational Unit - not available
I guess i was right, and they have given up on this head unit.
Unfortunately it was a good head unit, and with the proper support and accessories it would have been 1 of the best available.

The Alpine IVA-W200 is a great starting point for a multimedia unit. You can add nav via the blackbird for far cheaper than the other dvd unit, plus all the other goodies Alpine has to offer... with full support.

In my experience with my JVC KW-AVX810 the scosche kit was garbage, couldn't make it work. The Metra kit worked perfectly.
