Illumination wire for Z1 bypass found!
Illumination wire for Z1 bypass found!
This was something that some of us were wondering about because some shops think it's smart to just snip the illumination wire and not bother connecting them. This prevents the Z1 bypass from working because you need to essentially pulse 12V via the ILL wire (hence the reason why you switch on/off the light during the booting sequence). I went to two different shops and they all told me that they couldn't do it..so thanks to this forum and some others I tapped into the light blue/red wire in the harness with success. I spent forever making sure that I wouldn't mess up so hopefully it will save any future Z1 owners some time.
Note the dimmer wire is connected with a pink wire. However the wire should be Orange/White. I had to extend it with the pink one since it was cut off.

You will know if the dimmer wire is not properly connected if it says "off" for Illumination even though the headlights are turned on.

Success! The sky turns dark at night (only for looks) but the best thing of all...the bypass works. Flick the lights on/off once during the black boot screen and you're good to go!

Steve,
Were in the final steps here.
Just realized I have two red and blue wires coming out of the stock harness.
One is to the outside and one is in the middle. Which one did you tap into?

also i have the vo;ume controls on my steering wheel, and if you hook both of them up, when you hit the volume button up it just raises the volume all the way up and keeps it there.
