Jensen any good?

A friend of mine can get me a Double Din Jensen touch screen dvd/cd/mp3 headunit. It also accepts SD cards and can had Navigation added to it.
I would really like an Eclipse or Pioneer because I know they'd be top notch but the price tag is a little steeper.
My friend can get me the Jensen for $700.
Should I do it?

Jensen has been around for a long time so there is definitely still a market for them. Their double-din systems are nice and very competitively priced. If cost is the ONLY issue then I would say go for it. If you can hold off and save a couple hundred more then definitely get a more expensive unit (for the BLING FACTOR). But Jensen will do the job at an affordable price.

I have the cash to pay for an Eclipse or Pioneer right now... it's just that to me it's not really worth $1000-$1600 for the brand name. Plus the Jensen model accepts XD card's up to 1gb and a TV tuner comes with it.
I listened to my friends today and it seems like the Audio part of the equation is lacking a little. Unless it's his system or the way he has it tuned. I won't really know for sure.
I don't want a huge sacrifice in Sound Quality. This will be more of a headunit then a TV for me so maybe I'll go with Eclipse.

I was wondering the same question after looking at them online... that's what my friend told me, He may be full of ****, but he said that it just came out recently so maybe it's new.
But as far as I know the VM9020ts doesn't have Nav.

why not just pay $550 on ebay instead of giving "your friend" extra cash?

I found that.. and was going too buy from there If I decide to go with Jensen.
Basically I'm using him to see what his is like.
I didn't go into detail before cause it's kind of confusing.
It works out like this:
He has one, the flip out version (they're almost exactly the same).. but his sounds like crap. He tells me it's his speakers and the way he has it tuned. I don't know if I should take the chance of believing him.
The TV tuner and DVD player looks good on the screen. I'm just concerned about the sound quality.
I guess i'm gonna keep shopping around

I was looking at the Jensen at best buy and was very impressed with all the features for the price. You also have to realize that sometimes there are only a few manufacturers that actually produce the players and then sell their units to bigger name companies and they in turn jack up the price because of their name to gain their profit. It happens alot in today's economy. Where many companies will get their technology from a new innovation from the company that originated the idea and pay them a fee for the rights or will give them a percentage of the sale. That way it keeps them competitive offering a "similar product" put their BIG NAME on it and still sell. I wouldn't be surprised if Jensen actually made some of the players for some other big name company. Some will pay the higher price for the other brand when in fact it may be the same product internally.

I know the features and Video are good.
How is the Audio?
Like listening to a CD, does it have good SQ?
I'm thinking that a drive that's advanced enough to read DVD's and produce a good picture has to be able to do the same with a simple audio cd, correct?

I bought mine vm9020ts out of crutchfield based on their customer service. Anyways, I installed the unit tonight, and exactly 30 min. later, the touchscreen doesn't work anymore.... called paul at crutchfield and already have a new unit on the way, will be here friday. Thank God. Hopefully this was just a bad fluke since I have heard nothing but good about these units.

I;ve got that unit in the navi. I ran a Jensen Pro-Formance series 600x4 amp on it and it sounds great! Tuning it manually is better than the preset EQ settings though. I run 4 tv's with mine, including its screen. Haven't used the SD card function yet though. I had an Audiovox navigation system hooked up to one in my dads aviator, but he got pissy cause it didn't have sirius radio built into it so it all came out. I'll sell you that one, for $500 + shipping. Used 3 days, paid $600 wholesale for it. The DVD navigation system leaves something to be desired, as the touchscreen won't work with it, you have to use the remote. The navi system is DVD based, it was expensive as well. ($790 wholesale) I'll let it go with the adaptors needed to connect it to the unit for $500 as well. (used 1 day)

Just installed my second Jensen Unit after the previous one lost touchscreen capabilities 30 min after installation. So far so good....other than that little set back, I love this unit.
