BEST GPS unit $1000 or less?

Hey all....
I'm wanting to get a GPS unit but I don't want one that replaces my receiver... plus I'm on a budget....
So..
What's the best GPS unit out there for $1000? I'll probably get a docking station or something to mount it in my F150......
Any pics appreciated...
thanks

tim

I have 3 gps units. Each are handhelds. I really like to be able to take it with me on the mountain bike or hiking and I use one for work. If you want one just for the vehicle, you need to consider how much traveling you do and how far. You want a unit that has all of North America preloaded. You don't want to have to be loading different map sets. (which is what I have to do) If you off road, you want to be able to pull up or install a topo map. Do you plan to hardwire or just plug in? Some have external ant, important if you are in a big city with tall buildings. Size of screen is important, depending on you mounting location. Just some considerations I have encounterd over the years. Best to search google and do some reading. Hard to pick one for someone without knowing your needs. Also, watch the prices on these things. One store or website may have one for 999.00 and another will have it for 799.00.

Good luck.

What would you recommened for me. For the most part I do all of my traveling throughout Ohio and Western PA. I would like to find a unit that I can permenatley attach in the truck, that will give me voice directions as well as help to locate things like restaurants and gas statoins. I also am hoping to spend as little as possible. Thanks for you help!

I just bought a pair of JENSEN VM9020TS double din touch screen units, one for my aviator, and the other for my navigator. I got the audiovox DVD naviagtion system for one of them. I heard from a lot of dealers and installers that the seperated system is more dependable than the single unit (aka the eclipse avn and Pioneer avic units) I was going to get the avic pioneer but I got the Jensen and the external navigation for less.
