question about in-dash dvd

I just bought an in dash monitor and when i took out the stock radio there was a large metal bracket connected to the back to some more metal (I think its metal)? I removed the bracket but because of this other piece of metal I wouldnt even be able to add a half din player. Anybody else run into this and what did you do about this? All the posts I have read or any sites I have visited have never mentioned anything about 1.5 din player not fitting. I have even read that some 2 din players fit. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
If I do have to cut this what would be recommended?

Has anyone been able to fit 2 din size players in their dash without modification or a 1din and .5 din player in dash w/o modification. If their were modifications made, what were they? Thank you.

I remember somebody put a kenwood 7015 in their heritage body style. Maybe they will chime in.
