The best touch-screen monitor for vehicles is Xenarc. Period.

Tons of great ideas, help, and pics in these forums:

Thanks man, that xenarc page is the only thing I could really find usefull when I did a google search. I could probably make one of those work but I was hoping for something a little different. But I know you cant always get exactly what you want.

Ill keep you all updated, but this really isnt going to happen for at least a year, I am still in teh R&D stage.

But Im going to leave the details to your imagination. When Im done its going to look stock. No wires anywhere. It will be pure ownage.

Car PC

I too am looking into putting a computer into my F-150. Was originally looking at the Eclipse Head Unit vs. Kenwood, but the more I researched, the more it seemed neither had all the abilities I wanted. It seemed as though a computer was the way to go (and pretty comparable in price). Check out the following link....lots of great information.

Let me know what you think. I have several questions that I am sending to the gurus as CarCPU (who also have a great website)

You know I didnt realize it was this popular. There are tons of pages out there for it. Youll have to let me know how it goes for you. My bigest concern right now besides having to rip my truck apart to install this and the wiring which im not very knowlegable in is the PC overheating if it is stuck in a small location. Seeing that is primary purpose is going to be mp3 I dont think that will be too big of a problem.

I read on one page that to get the audio hook up. U simple conect all you speakers to an amp, then the amp to the computer. Sounds like a good time for an audio upgrade. Also sounds like time for a new battery. What is the popular one, the red top? or the yellow top?

Carputers are getting wildly popular and the mods and installs people are doing are getting cooler and cooler... I've been toying with the idea for at least a year. Maybe someday...

Within 5 years? Not a chance. Maybe within 5 years for your hi-end luxo cars. It will be interesting to see if MS can finally break into the auto market with it's 'Windows Automotive' product and how the developers adopt it.

Im not sure, it all depends on how the car manufactures respond to the current events, but if things with the economy, gas, etc.. keep going as they are i think youll see a major change in the automotive market in america. I agree though, putting full-blown personal computing technology into cars is basically the next step into the future really.

Not going to happen, at least not anytime soon. Most people want a simple volume ****, and station select buttons. Nevermind that it will cost more. Like dzervit said, maybe in some high end cars, as an option, but it won't be mainstream anytime soon.
