Question Bluetooth Phone

I'm interested in getting my 2003 KR SCrew retrofitted with a system that will communicate with my Motorola V5xx cell phone. The type of system that does not require a headset.

I have spoken to the service guys at my dealership and they are saying that the Mobile-Ease system cannot be retrofitted to my vehicle. Other forum threads have pointed me to websites that are saying that only a small subset of phones will work with their brand of aftermarket system.

Does anyone have additional info?

Thanks.

Dave....

My installer recomends Motorola

You got a motorola phone, why not put the Motorola blue tooth car kit in your vehicle. I hope to upgrade to a Razr soon, but mine works fine with my Seimens phone. Used to use Jabra headset, car kit is so much nicer

I did a search (Google) and found the kit you are talking about. Thanks. Now I need to find out who in the Friendswood, TX are would install this puppy and if the speakers of my stock KR can be automatically muted.

The Bluetooth kit uses your audio system speakers. When you answer a call the the stereo will cut out and you will hear your call on the audio speakers.

Check out the 04/05 forum. There is a great thread on the Ford Mobile ease bluetooth setup... one guy even has it installed.

Not the motorola kit...it has a seperate speaker, and I am about 99% positive if you have the factory HU in your 03 KR it will not self mute the radio. You have to have a radio with a mute function wire. Your radio may have it though...I never do anything with factory radios so someone else may no more about that particular HU than I do.

As for the install...DON"T PAY SOMEONE TO DO IT. It is a very...I mean VERY simple install. I have installed about 5 of them and there is only 3 wires (4 if you have the mute function on your HU) to hook up (a ground, a hot wire that stays hot and a hot wire that turns off and on with the ignition)...a speaker, mic and contol panel to mount and thats it. IF you can hook up a DVD player in your house you can do this. You can get the unit off ebay for around $150...Verizon wants $200 for it and $150 to install it. So buy it off ebay and hook it up yourself and you will save about $200 on it!

Just a note about the Mobile-ease system. It sucks. We had it put in my wife's Navigator. Very expensive, and the performance is just so so. We have tried moving the mic around and it has a hard time picking up voice. Oh yeah it picks up everything else, road noise, you name it, except the person on the phone, unless you are stopped. Also no matter how many times you turn the ring volume down, the dumb thing is so loud when a call comes in that it pretty much freaks me out.

All in all I would not get the system again.
