Generally, anything under $800 for an LCD/DVD combo deck will be junk. Some LCD/DVD units to look for at the lower price range;

Clarion VRX925VD, VRX935VD, VRX745VD
Panasonic

If you wan't navigation built in then you might want to consider the Pioneer AVIC1. It should be $1300-1500 on the intarweb.

Watch out for people selling just the indash unit. Almost all in-dash LCD/DVD units have a remote install 'brain' unit. Stay away from non mainstream brands as they are almost all junk. Brands to look for;

Pioneer, Panasonic, Clarion, Eclipse, Alpine...to name a few.

Thanks Deus, thats closer to what I was looking for, not just a comment about the price. So, there are 2 piece units and one piece units. I relly would like an all in one unit, but that is a little steep price for me at the moment.

At the moment I have a hand held GPS(Magellan Sportrak) that I use with my Amatuer Radio. not sure if the navigation units you mentioned will work with it or not, but I'll look into it.
