Question Factory DVD Player

I have recently purchased a Ford factory DVD player that fits on the overhead rail system from a private party, not the dealer. My question is will the wiring harness that is made for the dvd player connect to my truck wiring harness? Is every new bodystyle f-150 capable of accepting the DVD players power harness, or is it an option from the factory? I have the single disk factory DVD player and was wondering also if the DVD player would hook up to that as well? I was told by a different dealer that one had to have the cd changer to use the fm modulator.

All of the questions I am asking are questions the dealer has asked me to try to find out. They have NO CLUE about the factory dvd player what so ever. He said aside of ordering the harness and risk losing my $92.00 if it doesn't work (yes 92.00), the only other way to do it would be to get the VIN number of a truck that has the DVD player installed to compare the harnesses installed in that truck and mine.

Anyways I have a new DVD player, I just don't want to risk wasting the $ for the harness if it will not work. Thanks.

First off I don't beleive the factory DVD player is or has an FM modulator...thats why your radio has an AUX button on it. With that said I think any radio with the AUX button should be able to support the factory DVD player. A

As far as the wireing harness goes, I can't be much help there but what you need to try to find out is how the dvd harness plugs into the radio. IF you have to replace the entire radio wireing harness that would be one heck of a major job and probably would be worth it.

From what the dealer showed me on a schematic, the harness for the roof accessories ( DVD player) actually plugs in near the floor at the drivers side B post, by the drivers seat. From what they say it is just for power. Maybe it splits and goes to the radio as well. I think I might take my B post cover off to see if I can find the plug. Its just frustrating that the dealer, nor the audio shop that inatalls the dealer A/V accessories knows. Really though I am not worried about connecting it to the radio. I just need power to it, so I can use the headphones. Worst comes to worst I will just risk the 92 bucks and get the harness they show and try it.

If your not worried about hooking it to the radio then it shouldnt be a hard install...just get your dealer to let you look at one on the lot with a DVD player and find out which wires are the ground and power wires and you should be able to wire it up without the $92 harness.

I would if I could. The plug on the DVD player is connected directly to the DVD players motherboard. There are no wires. The wiring harness plugs right into it. I was thinking along your same lines before I got it though.
