Has anyone installed aftermarket navigation on their 05 F150? The car audio place here tells me that the only units they sell that will fit are a Pioneer and an Eclipse unit. The each run $1999.
Anyone have any different advice? Does this price seem competitive? Has anyone bought a unit off of Ebay? Their prices seem to be much lower over there.

I installed the Kenwood double din unit. Just as expensive but very nice. See my gallery for pics.

i just got a magellan roadmate 700 for christmas and it's the best thing i've ever gotten for the truck. i highly recommend it and it will perform better and is easier to deal with than any pioneer or alpine system. and it can be gotten for under $1000, if you look for a deal. good luck; any questions just ask.

That unit includes the 6.5" LCD head unit that has a DVD drive and a seperate NAV unit with a seperate DVD for the NAV. It's a package from Kenwood I got a local shop to sell it for $1800. Pretty spendy but worth it. The Kenwood Serius radio was only $80 extra and I really like that too.
Just curious...how much did it cost you to have the $1800 unit installed?
Thanks,
Chris
p.s. In reference to the other msg about the Roadmate, I have used that unit as well and love it. But my preference is to have an in-dash permanet unit that has Sirius capability built in. Has anyone here used both systems? If so, can you offer a comparison?

I don't have Navigation...only because I really couldn't justify it since I know if I ever go on long road trips I rent a car anyway. I do however have the Pioneer 6600DVD...which is the same basic unit as the AN1 just without Navigation. I said that to say this....I bought my unit off Ebay (brand new of course) and I got a hell of a deal on it compared to any local shop. I only paid $725 for it compared to the $1500 local price tag....I did price plenty of the AN1s for around $1200-$1300. I would deffeintly recommend a unit off Ebay. I have bought around 6 or 7 HUs off Ebay over the years and have never had a single problem with them.
You can see pics of my install in my gallery if your interested in see what the Pioneer unit looks like in our trucks.

As far as I know the Kenwood is the only double din 6.5" display that fits the f150 and is compatible with Serius. The installation fee was 150 bucks. Be sure to get the Metra double din install kit for the f150. It is needed to fill the slight gap between the unit and the dash.
How can a HU that does not support Sat Radio be better? Oh plus you have to remove the Navigation DVD if you want to use the drive for AV or Audio....Those seem like major drawbacks that the Kenwood P-NAV7105 Unit does not suffer from.
just installed my nav system
I just finish installing my kenwood kvt-815 head unit and a kenwood kna-dv4100 nav unit. WOW!! this thing is awesome. crystal clear video and spot on navigation. Installed in about 3 hours by myself. Could not be happier.

Well you would have to remove the Nav DVD if you wanted to play a DVD that had 4.7gb of MP3's for example...
Although supposedly you can input your destination in the Nav and then swap the disks. As long as you don't change course and need to recalculate it should work. Anyone who has used Nav knows recalculations happen a lot though.
I know the Eclipse is a very high quality unit with a good reputation and anyone would be lucky to have one. The real kicker for me was the lack of Sat Radio support. I really am glad I got that feature Sirius is great!!!
