Stupid MD lift laws
 

Can anybody give me any more info on the stupid MD lift laws? I'm looking to put a Rize 12" on my 08 FX4 Screw with some 40's but want to stay within legal limits or s close to it as possible so I can just swap out the wheels to some 35's I have in order to beat the repair order if I get one. From what i understand the front bumper has to measure withing 28" from the ground to the very bottom of it. Is that correct? Anything else I need to know? Any MD repair order stories for me?

I had a lifted jeep for a few years back when. The only thing I was ever hassled about was my tires sticking out to far, and not having mud flaps. Never got a ticket or work order, but was definitely pulled over a few times for it. As for the height of the bumper, I would talk to the local 4x4 shops about that. There is one on rt. 2 in glen burnie called Midwest 4x4, I would give them a call and ask.

I agree with checking up on the laws, however, I don't believe you will have any issues with the lift you are wanting to go with. I have seen some insanely lifted trucks around my area (Pasadena). I remember years ago a friend of mine had a lifted truck and used to get warnings all the time for not having mud flaps on tires that were over 35". I'm told they did away with that law now.

i think the laws are- bumper must be 27", tires can't stick out further then the fender, and i've also heard your not supposed to have a body lift ontop a suspension lift. my uncle used to have a wrangler with 6+ inches of lift. it broke every law i just mentioned but he never had any problems. it all depends on the cops in your area. but you should be fine

Thanks for the input so far guys. I'm on the fence now about getting the 12" and 40's or the 8" and bumping it to 10" with 38's. I've been leaning toward the 8" for the past day and figured out that I would have to get a 29" wheel/tire combo in order to fall within the limit if I got the repair order. I also figured out that if I were to get the 12" I would have to do a 25" combo to get in under 28". I really really really want to do the 12" and 40's because it just looks so much more bad a$$ and a lot less people have it.

Do you guys know of any small suv's or trucks that came with a 25" tire or all they all car tires? Do you think it would be extra ridiculous to run 25's for a couple hours and to get it inspected?

I'd really love to hear some first hand stories about MD repair orders and warnings for lift violations.

ok so after some research.....I figured out that the 97 Ranger 2wd cam with a tire set up of 25" diameter. There is no way in hell that i could pass that off especially with a 12" lift. It would look obcene with no lift at all! As much as I want to do it, I don't think I can afford to risk it. Looks like I'll be going with the Rize 8" fellas. Even though it's exciting to get 10" and 38's, a large part of me is bummed because I can't do the 12" and 40's. Guess it just wasn't meant to be.

How were you planning to use a ranger wheelset on an F-150 :confused:

I live in AA county and have a 94 Ranger with a 6 inch suspension and a 3 inch body lift with 33's and never had any problems, its been like that for at least 3 years now. Only problem I had was finding someone to align it since it was considered an "exotic" suspension or some crap. NTB wouldn't even touch it.

The only thing I can find is the bumper must be 28" or lower and I know you are allowed 1 tread maybe 2 to stick out beyond the fender.

it's actually Mid-Atlantic x4 & speed. Sam & Robin (owners) are very good people. honest & knowledgeable. sam is amazing at the things he builds too. i love the 4WD lifted camaro in front of the shop :rocker:

I wasn't planning on using Ranger wheels/tires......i was just using it as an example for size comparisons sake

They are the ones who have done everything to my Ranger, awesome people!

I wrote them an email asking for a quote for all of the work. I already have a place called Davis Auto down in Richmond, VA that quoted me $700 for all the suspension related install and $1900 for parts and labor on the 4.88's. They said it would take 2 1/2 -3 days total. We'll see what Mid Atlantic comes back with.

Anybody know of a good, cheap place locally that I can get new driveshafts made?

check with A-1 driveshaft. not sure if they would do it, but worth a shot.

Did you call Mid-Atlantic? For some reason I think a guy one day I was in there needed a longer drive shaft made and they either did it, or knew where to have it done for him.

I wrote them a detailed email and included that I was going to need new driveshafts. I asked if they could do it or if they knew somewhere. I guess they don't want/need my business or my thousands of dollars because they haven't gotten back to me. I don't get it
