Could Me Moving: Newport News, VA

Hi guys,
There is a good possibility that I could be moving up (from Tampa) to the Newport News area. I have an interview with a company up there.

First: Where can I get a good beer?

Where should I stay away from? (ex South East, DC)

Later down the line, Where is a good area to live?

Thanks for any input.

Ned, you would want to go to 'Schooners' for the beer.
(12368 Warwick Blvd) It's a college hangout.

There are good areas and bad just like Tampa, it's hard to just stay in Newport News as it's only about 3 miles wide and 18 long.

There are two main roads that run it's length (Jefferson and Warwick) everything else crosses these. Are you flying in or driving up?

Stay away from South Newport News near the shipyards. People disappear there never to be seen again.

Yeah, crackheads and prostitutes are down there. Although it's Newport News I kinda count it more as Hampton. As long as you're north of Oyster Point you're fine.
