Well, depending on how much time you have and how far you want to travel, the Chiricahua National Monument is pretty special. Google it for images. The road that goes down into the Salt River Canyon and up onto the Mogollon Rim is pretty neat too, if you want to take that route between northern and southern Arizona.

Tombstone is pretty "touristy", but I always enjoy it because I grew up learning about Wyatt Earp, Doc Holiday and the Clantons. Do visit Boot Hill cemetery - it's free. There's an old mining town called Bisbee that is pretty close and has become kind of "artsy" that we enjoy. You can look into the Lavender Mine pit there (a great big hole in the ground that used to be a mountain). For a fee, you can be taken on a tour of the Copper Queen mine in Bisbee and the Good Enough silver mine in Tombstone.

Near the town of Benson, which you will probably pass through, is Kartchner Caverns State Park, which was recently opened to the public. It's a very beautiful major "living" cave.

    Hope this helps.

    Pick Up Man,

I see that you are from Big Stone Gap. Are familiar with a P-39 crash site at Big Stone Gap during World War II? The airplane crashed there in February 1942.

I am an author/researcher who visits WWII air crash sites. I was just wondering if there was any local people who knew the story of this crash.

    Thanks.
