Bill's Updates

Morning all:

Just finished a 1.500 mile trip to Chicago and back last night and now have ~6,000 miles on mine.

Mileage has gone up to just about 17 mpg on the interstates cruising at roughly 10 over whatever the limit is. Did get a rabbit and pack going yesterday evening between Chattanooga and Atlanta and buried the speedo for the first time. The pack was doing 90 to 100+ for about 15 miles in very light traffic.

Finally figured out how to use the GPS Navigation system and it is a hoot. If you remember Space Odyssy 2001 and Hal, you will feel right at home if you have one. We have named our voice Haley (it is a woman's voice) and she is spot on. At the Chicago end of the triip, after giving perhaps 100 commands on the way, she announced "You have arrived at your destination" just as we drove under the portico of our hotel. Really cool.

Regarding problems, Passenger seat AC still non functional, Passenger mirror still rattles and goes out of adjustment every time you shut the door. Speed control still shifts down within 1=2 mph of the desired speed when you hit resume. I am going to replace the windshield wipers with better quality, the originals are shot after roughly 4,000 interstate miles fighting bugs and dust from construction.

Eye candy appeal of the truck remains sky high. Every gas stop, hotel stop, rest stop etc. it draws an admiring crowd ranging from bikers to Jaguar owners and everything in between. Very good for the ego

This week she goes in for the first major service and fixit stuff. After that, I am thinking of starting the add-ons/mods routine. Nothing major, window deflectors maybe some running boards and that type of stuff. Mods will be a free flow filter and some sort of exhaust and possibly a mild chip.

Other stuff: Jim and I both solved the trip computer problem the same way. It does not work to leave it on all the time without zeroing the display. Works fine on a trip, but around town driving seems to confuse it and it gives bad intel. Same with the average mpg on the upper display. It accumulates over time and it is best to zero that one too at each fill up to get more accurate figures. And....it is pretty darned accurate.

That's it for this time.
