Lincoln Blackwood - American Luxury
777:
I thought we brought this up before, but in case we did not, the cosmetic stuff like running boards. in particular, have to be considered in the context that the Blackwood is an upgrade to the F150 Supercrew, not a Navigator.
To be sure, we have the Navigator front clip, the Navigator instrumentation, the Navigator motor and trannie and so on, but the chassis stuff is pretty much going to have to come out of the F150 Supercrew parts/accessories parts bin.
In terms of appearance/functional add ons, I think we are going to be looking at OEM/aftermarket suppliers for the F150.
In terms of performance add ons, we can perhaps pick from the parts bins of suppliers who offer items for the 5.4 DOHC Navigator motor.
For the moment, I am looking for a better air filter (seems I can order anything that fits the Navigator), a true dual exhaust which seems to be a custom deal due to the difference in the Nav motor vs the standard 5.4 on a Supercrew, and eventually a chip which I am told is easy if you choose one from the computer code from the Blackwood (same as a Navigator) but maybe not so easy if you try to get one to accomodate the added weight and engine/trannie parameters that are unique to the Blackwood.
Let us keep the thread going and maybe we will come up with some interesting mods.

That is some great info - thanks!!!
I have been told that replacing the chip voids the warranty and i am not willing to risk that...
A friend of mine is using one of those air filters and I am going to wait and see what it does for him.

The dealer here also said the Navigator running boards are not compatible with the Blackwood "but they could try it". No thanks for me.
As to performance mods, the air filter and any exhaust mods will most likely not bother your dealer much as they see a fair number of Navigators with these items.
The chip issue in theory should prevent no problem either but having leased a chipped Lightning for three years I found it depended on the dealer. I always used the same Lincoln dealer where I leased our Conti and the Blackwood to get my Lightning serviced and they never said a word and they knew it was chipped. On the other hand, I never abused that one and they knew it. It still had 2 original tires on it when I traded (punctured the other two) and they were still good for a while.
Others have had some problems which you could read on any of several vehicle forums or the chip forum. My take is if you "race" or otherwise abuse the vehicle in the view of the dealer service dept., you may run into a problem. If whatever goes wrong obviously has nothing to do with the chip you should be OK. One simple thing to do is ask your service manager. He is the one who decides to honor or not honor your warranty 99% of the time. If he is OK with it then your OK at least on a local level.
You can, of course, remove the chip when going in for service which on an L was about a 2 minute job to take it out and 10 minutes to put it back in for me. Although I removed it several times when I got a bad tank of gas or something, I don't ever remember taking it out when I went to the dealer. There are two opinions on whether the computer remembers whether it was chipped or not, when the chip is removed. Some say yes, some say no and I could never figure it out. I gather the dealer can run a diagnostic program that will certainly tell if it is chipped and of course if you leave the chip in it is visible and even if you remove it, it leaves evidence of tampering. Sorry if that is confusing but I am not going to try to edit it.
For what it is worth, the chip, most any chip, makes the vehicle more fun to drive and much more responsive. Do a little trolling on the chip forum and you will get the info you need if you are not already familiar with how they work.
Happy Wooding.

The thing I miss the most by not owning a Blackwood is not being able to tell people I have "wood"
I am laughing my butt off at these posts knowing what the double entendre is.
Listen to them...
I only have Wood on the weekend...
Happy Wooding...
I'm now the proud owner of a Wood...
My Wood is doing great...
I wont let my wife use the Wood...
Sorry, fell into a high school mode for a minue.

Bill,
My Wood is doing just great and no problems.
Filled up with fuel today 270.4 miles and 19.7 gals. of fuel

is 55 MPH are less. Total miles as of today 1025.
Until next time,
Jim

Bill,
Refueling time again just left the station and came home.
309.4 miles 21.5 gals fuel which is 14.4 MPG all local driving.
Bill, I found out if you check your AVG MPG and push both
buttons at the same time it will zero your AVG MPG that's button
MODE and E-M. I done it after I filled up and at 55 MPH in 6 miles
I was at 17.2 AVG MPG. Total miles as of today 1333.4
No problems

Refueled again and still doing better.
257.7 miles and 17.3 gals that's 14.9 MPG all local driving
I reset the avg MPG and it came out the same 14.9
Didn't need to fill up but going on a short trip today about 150 miles and didn't have enough to make it so just filled uo before starting.
Total miles as of now 1590

Morning Jim:
My, y'all get up early over there in 'doches don't you.
I too figured out how to zero the upper console numbers and I am getting about the same in town if I take it easy.
I have been driving the TC this week as we have had a weather front hanging around for several days as well as getting the fringe of Isidore here. Georgians don't know how to drive in the rain worth a hoot and we have had hundreds of traffic fender benders and I didn't want to put the Wood at risk.
Still haven't had a chance to take her in for the 6K service yet but hope to next week and get some of the little problems taken care of. We have two 300 mile trips planned in Oct. so need to get it sorted out.
Talk at you later.
