lincoln blackwood tonneau problem
My tonneau just started giving me problems it opens by itself, I can close it with my remote but it opens again at random times so I just decided to take the fuse out. But now I put the fuse back n I can't open itwith the remote or from the inside I have to open it manually it still closes automatically but it won't open with the remote. N yes it still opens at random please I need help thanks
Mine finally gave up the ghost after several years intermittent, fail to open, fail to close. I finally tied a lanyard to the manual release and put a **** on the end of it so it hangs down in front of the tire. Pull to release, push both corners down to latch. Works fine.

Tonuea Cover Stopped Working
It finally happened. It took 7 years and 60,000 plus miles but, it won't open and all the fuses check out fine. Mine did that remove and reinstall fuse thing for a few weeks but, but now has finally stopped altogether. Who has the best price on a new module? Is there anyone repairing the old ones?

I had a problem with mine and replaced the module myself. But I did have intermittent problems in the Winter if a very thin layer of ice had formed on the top surface of the box that the tonneau rests on. I just wiped it with my finger along the top and it would close.

I just bought a module for my 02 Blackwood from Earnhardt Ford @ http://ford.oepartsmegastore.com/
It was the cheapest price I could find at $387.85 plus shipping.
Hope that helps,

I've just purchased an 02 Lincoln Blackwood and the tonneau cover will not open or close automatically. I've read all the threads here and on other sites and decided to order a new module. I would like to replace it myself and was hoping that someone may have an instruction sheet from a shop manual or some words of advice to share before I get in there and try to figure it out blind. Any helpful advice or comments would be appreciated!
I'm newly registered & have a Blackwood w/an inoperative tonneau. Won't work w/overhead switch or key fob. Manual opening works. I've called two Lincoln dealers & neither will even give me a cost estimate to find the problem, only that "this will be expensive." Just great. Others on this thread speak of a "module." What type of module & is there a part number? Also, my driver's door key pad in also inoperative. Any suggestions, anyone? I am ready to sell & I should have these items repaired first. Any help from anyone gratefully appreciated. jd millar

Lincoln Blackwood Tonneau Problem
Thanks for all the replies. The info on the module buy through oepartsmegastore is very helpful ... IF ... the problem can be isolated to that module. I have an app't for 9 April to have the dealer evaluate. The down-side is, the service manager says he can't give me even a clue as to the labor cost to determine what's failed. No doubt, I can expect a large bill. I'll write more when/if I'm given an answer. Thx again to all. jd
More games with parachute cord.
Using some washers I put a big eyebolt (1/2") in the hole on the bed support then ran the parachute cord through the eye and then up over the front of the bed and tied it off to the cargo ring inside, leaving ample slack. With the tonneau closed it is hidden in the crack behind the cab but I can easily slip my hand in, pull it out and tug on it to unlatch the cover. A little less convenient than a button but as a no money repair that works very well it beats a $400 module and a day or two installing it. A slicker cord or something would be an improvement making it easier to unlatch, and a really slick mod would be to run it to the driver's side but for now, this sure beats the heck out of bending over and fishing for the release.
