blackwood battery dead overnight

blackwood has 30K miles. I replaced the battery in my blackwood in March. because one morning It was dead. A few days ago It was dead overnight for no apparent reason. I recharged it and It seemed ok but the next morning it was dead as a door nail. I recharged it again and this time I went for a few days starting it and driving it, then overnight, dead as a door nail. has anybody had this problem or does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks a ton........Glenn

I would take the battery in and have it checked. Occasionally, just like anything else, they make one that is defective. Other than that, it would obiously have to be a drain. Have you done any recent electrical work? Added any relays?

This is one of those situations where warranties work well, Interstate is a good battery with good support to name one. I would look at the alternator too, it's most likely bit the dust.

battery dead overnight

I replaced the newly charged battery and the blackwood fired up with no problem, when I turned it off the blower came on full blast with the key out. I could not turn the blower off. I tuned the key to on and the blower shut off. started the truck then turned it off again, and the blower came on full blast again. I had to pull the fuse and put it back in and that turned off the blower. I also noticed a glimmer of light in the tection control button. Could this be the computer has gone bad? Everything works great when the engine is started, and truck runs well. If I reconect the battery it will be dead by morning. HELP!! I am going nuts.

either the BCM is shorted out, or you have a short to ground in the power harness for the blower.

Wait im guessing you have the digital air controls right? The Control panel itself has problems with them failing electrically. I would look into replacing the AC controls if that is where the "Glowing" was.

The traction conrol button has the very slight glow to it. If I start the engine and turn traction control button on and off, it glows bright like it should and seems to operate correctly. ????

Angry Same problem

My 2002 Blackwood with 52,000 miles is doing the very same thing right down to the blower motor on with the key out. I'd sure like to know what you found. Case is almost identical. I drove it about one week since the last dead battery and today it acted up again.

Blsckwood battery dead overnight

As wsa mine. The seal in the top left corner was gone and the water leaked down the window post (inside). Never enough to show up on the rug but enough to short out the electrical box. My A/C would be on with no key in the ignition or the radio would play or something else enough to kill the battery overnight. It happened about five times before we realized it only happened after a bad rainstorm. Now if I could find a simpler cure for my tonneau cover besides replacing that module in the bed.

Interesting find. My trunk occasionally acts up and I have to pull and re-seat a 15 amp fuse under the hood to reset it. I'll have to check it against rain.

different problem

My finding (and I'm not an expert by any means) are that they are unrelated problems. If pulling the fuse makes it work temporarily it is more likely the module in the bed is defective. There is a relay I think in the module that resets if you pull the fuse. Then it hangs again. I can't remember where I read the info on pricing and procedure but I think the module itself is over $300 and labor is probably as much. Not really a DIY project but can be done, Everything I read says to wear gloves as the stainless must be removed from the bed (because the module is located in there) and it is sharp as a razor blade and very thin so it will bend if you are not extremley careful. I probably got that info right here on f150 Forum.

Sounds familiar. One guy had a buddy build a relay board for a replacement. No reason why a small industrial programmable logic controller couldn't do the same thing for about the same price, maybe less. Know any industrial logic guys?

Hi Jim, indeed, with programmable ic's the wiring could be simpler, but the tech wasn't sure about the temps behind the panel, so he chose the relays based simply on reliability, relays do take the abuse, and keep working.

And so far so good, it was repaired since October 09, and not single glitch to report
