Spring swap

Well I'm just about ready to try a spring swap on my Blackwood truck. I called the local spring shop and they don't even have the spring code listed in their books, no surprise I guess. I figure stock F150 springs might be a good starting place. They should be softer than the ones that Lincoln used, I know my dad's F150 rides better. Only issue might be the weight. I don't know how much heavier it is. Anyway I figure the front coils ought to be a direct swap and the rear leafs ought to be pretty close to it, maybe need longer u-bolts or something. At least with a regular spring pack instead of a mono leaf I could pull a leaf or two to soften them up and let the air bags handle the weight. Anybody got any advice?

Jim

Thanks. After a bit more thought, I think I'll wait a few months until the truck is paid for and then start looking for a Navi or Expedition to pull the 4x4 driveline out of, and go for the full independent suspension. Should ride a lot better that way, and who knows, maybe I can even find a way to use those air bags.

Im in the market for lowering springs for my mark LT... Would the SVT Lighting springs fit? if so how low would it take it? I like the idea of it being a softer ride.

Softer ride?

Hi Jim!

I am new to these forums, and also an owner of a 2002 blackwood (altough it was sold as 2003 model in Mexico)

Why would you like softer springs on your blackwood?

As a previous owner of a 99 f-150 and a 00 expedition, the wood's rides much better, but that's my opinion.

I am not sure if the newer trucks will interchange with the "heritage" models

the Lightning front springs gave me about an inch drop

I'm sort of getting used to it. The soft shocks helped tremendously. It rides very well when towing a trailer so I guess that's really what the suspension was set up for, anyway at 75K miles either the ride has softened up or I have. Anyway it'll be paid off by spring so I'll re-evaluate the situation after that.

As for why I want it to ride softer, well I just sort of expected a Lincoln to ride like a Lincoln you know? At the very least I thought it ought to have a softer ride than a bare bones F150. I dunno, maybe that was asking too much...

Lol, good point Jim, a Lincoln that rides like a Lincoln, there's no arguing to that.

My dad owns a 08 Mark LT, and the ride is much firmer than the wood, i do like the way it handles on HWY, but then again, we never tow anything.
