BW minor grumbles

There are two things the truck has been doing that bother me a bit:

1) It whines. Or maybe I should say squeals or whistles, well something on the order of something electronic squealing, almost like when your ears ring. It comes and goes, the intensity varies, and so far I've not been able to identify when or why or even where. It whines with the radio off, with it on, at low speed, at high speed, etc. About 80% of the time it doesn't.

2) Hard to start. It never fires right up, but always has to crank for a bit, sometimes longer and sometimes shorter, and sometimes I think it would just go right on cranking as long as I held the key but then when I let off it runs.

Anybody else had these troubles?

Jim

Only time I've EVER had any delays on firing is this past week. Granted it was about 3 degrees out at the time. Even then it only hesitated for a split second befor catching.

No problem here with it catching. The only whine I get is between 40 and 55 MPH, I think it is either a tire\ rear end whine.

I don't know why it does that, maybe I should go by the ford shop and have the service manager try it to tell me if it should be different. (Lincoln dealer is much farther away)

As for the squeal, it comes and goes. Different speeds, radio on/off, heater on/off I dunno. Definitely electronic from the sound of it.

Mine made a noise for a while when I first got it. Sounded a little like you described. Turned out that something had gotten stuck in the fan for the a/c seats. Dealer cleaned it out and its been fine since.

Never had any starting probs. but my battery went bad about 6 mos. ago. Really wierd.....Started up fine, moved it to the end of the driveway. went to start it 2 min. later and it was dead-as-a-doornail. Absolutely no prior warning.Never suspected that it was the battery. I thought it was some kind of a major system failure. Also, when the battery went dead, a bunch of sensors and switches under the dash made some really strange noises, kept trying to reset themselves. I thought that the thing was going to catch fire. Dealer said that that's the way batteries fail in Blackwoods, no biggie...(Yeah, not for him...$80 for the electrical system test and $130 for the new battery....).

Glad to see the Blackwood forum is coming alive again...

Thanks Rich, that's something I never thought of. I'll check the passenger side controls and see where they're set.
