Hi everybody, i just bought last week this lincoln mark lt, so far i have only 930 miles on it, and i wanted to know something about the transmission and brakes. when the tranny is about to shift from 3rd to 4th gear, if i let go the accelerator just at that point, it gives me like a kick forward and back. It is not continuous, but i was curious if this was normal?

also, if im completely stopped with my foot on the brakes, and I let go of the brakes slightly, not fully, and start moving with my foot still on the brake, i get like a deep squeaky noise. It only happens when im releasing the brake slowly. when im driving normally, there is no sound when i brake, just when im releasing the brake slowly.

the dealer told me that both of these things are normal, but I dont trust dealers these days, i had ignition problems on my 2002 gt conv. 2 weeks after i got it, and for 3 years thereafter, and the dealer always said that everything was fine, and that there was nothing they could do.

I am no mechanic, but what you are describing with the tranny sounds like the torque converter locking up, which is normal.

 

try searching the 04-05 f150 or xmsn threads. since it is a dressed up 150 it will have the same problems that they have. the local lincoln dealer thinks hes really got something and doesnt want to deal on the price or i would be driving an lt. i think its pretty sharp looking. but after he knocked me over with the crappy deal for my trade and buy i got to thinking how the mechs at the lincoln dealer are probably not up to speed on pickup trucks. will the warranty let you take it to a ford dealer?

 

thanks for replying guys, the warranty requires that i take it to a lincoln dealer, but they already said that these things are "normal". i actually leased this truck, they had a special up til june 30 for 499 a month for only 2 yrs with maintenance and $2000 inceptions, which included about $800 junk fees, the rest was the first months payment and security. (based of an msrp of 40545). im paying $595 b/c i got a model that was $3000 more and i got the wear care coverage which dropped my inceptions 600 bucks b/c it eliminates the security deposit and also covers the truck for scratches and dents, and weared out tires at the end of the 2 yrs. they give the best deals on the last day of the month and at the end of each quarter, so if your not in a hurry, wait until the last day of july or august or september, which will then be the end of the quarter. good luck

Aagain, don't take this to the bank, but I have owned numerous vehicles with that sound in the brakes when resting the foot on the pedal and "creeping" forward. It shouldn't make that sound when slowing down, but I think what you are experiencing is a "normal" sound of the brakes.

I could be wrong,,and have been on numerous occasions. Just my .02.

I have a new f-150 Lariat 4x4 SCREW and it makes the same sound with the brakes when I'm stopped and "creeping" forward slowly sort of stoping and going.....various vehicles I've owned have made this noise and it's probably normal. The tranny noise (without more specifics) is hard to diagnose - but these new transmissions are computer controlled and between all the various sensor/ECU and programming inputs they then to run a bit jerkier and have hesitations that an honest 3 speed purly mechanical auto tranny never had. Probably normal there too. If I were you I'd keep a small log book and pen in the console and document when, what temp, speed, gear, throttle positon etc. you are in when the tranny acts up so you can see if there is a pattern which may indicate a defect.....also will help the dealer diagnose the problem quicker.

 

If you're rolling off the throttle during the 3-4 shift, you're dropping line pressure, so yeah, it may shift a little herky jerky.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over the brakes either. Drive normally and don't worry about it. "Vehicle characteristic - No problem found."

 

I take my F-150 to the lincoln dealer for factory work. They handle it with no problems. They all look at the same repair manuals etc..

I like it better than the Ford dealer that is 2 blocks down.

They have much nicer staff since they are used to catering to a different crowd. Waiting room much nicer. Not packed with a zillion folks/kids.

 

Ford and Lincoln-Mercury dealers are trained to service just about any Ford Motor Company product under warranty. Taking your Ford to the Lincoln-Mercury dealer or vice versa is okay, as long as it's not a diesel or it's not an SVT vehicle, in the case of a Ford going to a L-M dealer. Hybrids must go to a dealership with a hybrid certified technician.

 

so youre paying for all of those add ons and its a leased truck?

 

all the addons came with the truck already, i didnt put anything aftermarket
