I am not technically really all that proficient, but I believe there is a GPS sensor that mounts on the back side of the rear view mirror to capture the satellite feeds.
The slot for the map CDs is a separate unit that mounts in the console storage box next to the CD player. So, three separate pieces, really.
As a side note, we just recently took delivery of an 05 Navigator with the new DVD Nav system. I am getting used to it now and so far I like it a little better. Better screen, faster response, screen is located so it can be seen better. The DVD slot is not convenient at all, however, being located in the passenger side of the console behind a lid. course on the other hand, you only have one DVD instead of several CDs so you only have to change it once a year.
