Octane differences
Just added a 2004 F150 FX4 to my driveway.
It has the "same" 5.4l engine as my 'Wood, but the FX4 only requires Regular octane levels. Why does the 'Wood require Premium?

its a 4-valve motor and it tends to rev higher than the 2 valve. i'm not so sure if its actually required to run that high of an octane. but its recommended.

It does have a 4 valve motor, not a 3 valve. I've though about trying to use lower octane gas, but I dunno. Gas sure aint cheap these days, especially 91 or 93 octane.
YOU CAN TRY A LOWER OCTANE,BUT THE TRUCKS COMPUTER WILL TAKE TIMING OUT WHEN IT HEARS PINGING.ON MY TARUS SHO MILAGE DROPS ABOUT 5-6 MPG IF YOU PUT 89 OCTANE INSTEAD OF 92. SO IT COST MORE AND THE CAR RUNS LIKE A CHEVY(I MEAN CRAP),
