Question Octane differences

Just added a 2004 F150 FX4 to my driveway.

It has the "same" 5.4l engine as my 'Wood, but the FX4 only requires Regular octane levels. Why does the 'Wood require Premium?

The Blackwood engine was not the same as the F-150 engine. It was a 3 valve engine I think and used the same engine as the Navigator. But I could be wrong. Basically it was a higher performance engine which requires higher octane fuel to prevent engine knock. But then again I might not know what the hell I'm talking about.

its a 4-valve motor and it tends to rev higher than the 2 valve. i'm not so sure if its actually required to run that high of an octane. but its recommended.

The 5.4L in the 2004 FX4 is a 3-valve, according to the brouchure.

I am not complaining! I am glad that my daily vehicle takes Regular, especially since I assumed that it didn't!!

See I was correct after all (that is when I said I may not know what the hell I'm talking about). It does have a 4 valve motor, not a 3 valve. I've though about trying to use lower octane gas, but I dunno. Gas sure aint cheap these days, especially 91 or 93 octane.

YOU CAN TRY A LOWER OCTANE,BUT THE TRUCKS COMPUTER WILL TAKE TIMING OUT WHEN IT HEARS PINGING.ON MY TARUS SHO MILAGE DROPS ABOUT 5-6 MPG IF YOU PUT 89 OCTANE INSTEAD OF 92. SO IT COST MORE AND THE CAR RUNS LIKE A CHEVY(I MEAN CRAP),
