2005 Lincoln pickup
Don't shoot me, but..............
OK, a Blackwood it is not but that probably is not all that bad for Lincoln. Cadillac has proven that properly done a rebadged and re-specced Chevrolet can be sold successfully under their nameplate.
As proud as Blackwood drivers may be of their rare and unusual vehicles, it did squat for Lincoln Motor Division or whatever it is called today. Given the competition out there in that segment, they need a marketable pickup which the Wood unfortunately was not.
Personal taste is just that but I am rather favorably impressed by what I have seen so far of the concept vehicle. Regarding the other thread, I did not really see any wood, it looked like different shades of brushed aluminum or some such and I like it.
Got to run to lunch but I will add more later.

Agreed. It looks like Ford is indeed rebadging the F150 as a Lincoln this time around.
I hope that they are successful this time and don't try to make $17k of each sale.
It is a nice picture.
It's still no blackwood.

Well, at this point it is still a prototype/styling exercise as I read it. In that sense we may see something a bit different when/if it finally hits the streets.
As to the hood, ready, I believe that the new Tonka front end on the 04s is so much different than the current Gator front that this is what they came up with for starters.
I enjoy the distinctiveness of our Woods as much as the next person but there are still many times I wish I could lose the cover over the bed or at least be able to remove it. I haul tons of stuff as we all do but it just can't handle anything with height or length. I realize we have decided we can drive the darn thing with the lid open but if I keep it I don't want to contemplate having to pay someone to fix the lid if I break something.
To return to the Lincoln Pickup, it will be interesting to see how the real thing develops. 5.4 DOHC motor???? Probably so along with the attendant trannie mods. Special rear springs/bags??? I would bet not but they might try to retain them for some sort of Lincoln ride. Certainly a signature interior (I did not notice that the seats were perforated for AC in the photo). Would also be nice to have as an option a factory setup for DVD players in the back of the front seats. Also a more modern GPS setup. Nothing really wrong with the ones we have, but it is really late 90's technology.
So now, what to do??? My lease is up in May of 2005 and it is entirely possible that the GenIII Lightnings may be available by then as well as this Lincoln Pickup. As supportive as Pat is regarding my taste in vehicles, I doubt if I am going to be able to swing her into letting me buy the Wood off lease and get both another Lightning and......a Lincoln Pickup that is actually a pickup.
Well, I have about 16 months to come up with a good line. Feel free to advise me if you have some neat ideas.

Minor update Lincoln Pickup - Also Aviator
Go to www.media.ford.com
Gives the skinny on all the concept vehicles at the NA Auto Show in Detroit.
Not good news in my opinion. Specs the MK LT with the 3 valve 300 hp motor. Also takes the Aviator off the SUV chassis and puts in on a sedan platform. Smaller motor as well. Maybe I only have to try to grab a GenIII L now instead of two trucks.

I never bought the Blackwood to haul anything but me and occasionally my luggage, so that issue hasn't really affected me.
I have a SUV that carries most cargo and a trailer at my disposal that I could always hook up to the Wood if necessary. That's what I would recommend, but I am not objective about it! haha
I bought the Wood to keep, probably for the rest of my life (or it's life!). Didn't lease or finance, so the only costs (so far, anyway) are insurance and gas. Oh yeah, and numerous trips to the car wash. I just think of it as a toy... Or rather a high-maintenence girlfriend!

Just a little off subject, but I mentioned to Pat the upcoming Lincoln MK LT Pickup and had her look at the picture. Not a good thing to do.
She hauled my butt over to the side window of the house that overlooks the two l956 F100 project trucks that I have had sitting in the driveway for 12 years (well, not to mention the 1969 Chev Panel truck and the 1969 Chev Cop Car BelAir).
Says she "those damn trucks were running when you parked them. You want a real pickup bubba, then get one of those running again".
Guess it's a good thing I don't like the present choice of engines in the MK LT.
