Looking for something.....
Looking for something.....
Hello all! Glad to see there is a Blackwood forum on here now!
I have an 03 HD, and love it. I have seen some of the Blackwoods out there, and though they are nice, they just aren't my style.
I do have a few questions though:
I'd like to see pictures of inside the beds on these. I've heard they were very nice, and I'm interested. Also, I've heard that there was a built in storage unit in the back?
I have a Retrax cover with a BedRug in my HD, and am looking for great storage for the back.
Here is a pic for you guys as well... I loved the trim on the BW's, and thought it would go well with the chrome on my truck:
What modifications have you guys done to your trucks? I know they are N/A, but they are the 32V engine, correct?
Any good pics of the bed, inside, etc would be great. I haven't had an opportunity to really see one inside.
I know how great it is to own a limited ed. vehicle, although they made too many of the HD's in my opinion, two previous cars were a 00 SVT Contour, and an 92 TBird SuperCoupe.
and post those pics!

mods so far is JLP ram-air & Diablo chip (still w/a few bugs to be worked out)
next up (maybe next year) some chrome 20s & exhaust after that
Back to your origional request... the bed has built in side compartments (1 on each side) as well as cubby holes in the back doors (1 on each door). They also come w/a collapsable cargo holder that can clip into the tie downs. Hope this info helps since I haven't gotten around to taking any pics of my bed yet (maybe this weekend).

Hmmm... To convert HD bed to BW bed...
Add a power-lift to the tonneau w/key fob
Line it in stainless steel w/rubber guards
Carpet it
Add LED glow bars (a black light and disco ball would work also)
Add 4 chrome tie-downs
Add a 12v power-point
Add a glow in the dark tonneau release handle
Place flip-down tailgate with a split-gate
It won't ride as smooth as a BW bed, but who rides back there anyway???

There have been at least two complete bed assemblies on Ebay.
I tried to get one that was out in the midwest somewhere just to have a spare but dropped out of the bidding. I think it went for about $2,500. You do not even want to know what it would cost to try to make one out of Ford's parts bins. I would say not less than $12 to $15K for all the parts/motors/solenoids etc.
Try Ebay and also there are some salvage yards you can search on the net as well.
Mine has a chip/filter/exhaust and it hauls butt. Also have coming stainless grilles upper and lower. Got today my Police Interceptor badges but that is a whole nother story (see the thread Blackwood as a Police Interceptor). Like Rdy, I am lusting after some 20 or 22 inch wheels but cannot justify the price just now as I have only 12K miles on the rubber with lots of wear left and I cannot find anyone to buy the stock Wood wheels. If I decide to buy the truck after it comes off lease (almost a no brainer) I am most likely to put an aftermarket blower on it but not a killer setup just a 100 hp sort of deal.
Thanks for your interest in our very limited production trucks.

Thanks for the pics! The back is certainly different than I expected. I like the additional room I have, but the additional storage is nice on there. Didn't realize that the tonneau on these was powered, but that's a nice option! I have the Retrax on mine, so I have the option of carrying quite a bit, and the benefits of a hard top.
Got the carpet (BedRug), got the 4 chrome tie downs, and putting in lights... Not a huge fan of the split gate, but it's certainly different, and if it works, awesome!
Why would you need the 12v powerpoint in the back? Is is just like a cigarette lighter interface, or what?

There were some chrome tie downs on ebay the other day...
I think they were listed as King Ranch Tie Downs (which wasn't correct)

I use the power point in the back to plug in the little 12v vacuum that I have. OK - I have only done it once, but that is ONE use...
I suppose that you could plug in a portable TV, refrigerator, satellite setup, etc while camping! haha

This vehicle is not about needs, although the air conditioned seats are a MUST for any vehicle I buy from now on!

The A/C seats are something I would love to have, but I LOVE my two-tone seats, and I've heard that unless the leather is perforated, you can't retrofit the seat A/C....
12V makes sense, hell why NOT?
HAHA - Exactly!
There are many more 'hidden' differences, such as the suspension. It rides mushy like a big car and auto-levels itself.
When I was deciding to buy, I test drove everything that I was attracted to, including all of the F150 variants (HD, SCREW, KR, L, etc.). The problem was that I drove the BW FIRST...
Each had something about it that was desirable. But in the end, the A/C seats won me over (along with the fact that Lincoln had announced termination and was offering a good discount). It's kinda me anyway...
HD - Very Harley. Very cool. Did not have the ride of the BW or the A/C seats.
SCREW - Inexpensive. Plain. Boring... Could have customized, but no A/C seats.
KR - Nice looking. Not really a cowboy wannabe and not an outdoors kinda guy. No A/C seats.
L - Zippidydooda! But that's about it. I'd have gotten a lot of tickets... And no A/C seats.
