Any more info on your setup?

If somebody wants to customize their ride, more power to them. Nothing wrong with wanting your car to stand out, and gather some attention. Everyone should be prepared to stand up to others who ridicule their choices, as you can't please everyone. So we have our group who likes going fast in a a big fridge shaped box making fun of people who want the flash and bling of slow econo cars... and vice versa. Gotta love the herd insticts of the human animal...

I think that we all can appreciate a fine custom job regardless of the model or manufacter. Nice does not mean rice, and the rice term does not only apply to Japanese cars; who hasn't seen a Neon or Cavalier that was hopped up and tacky?

A few guidlines for those that may wonder, "Am I a Ricer?"

You may be a ricer if...

You spent more for your sound system than you did for your car.

Your hot rod is your Mom's old Honda.

You can't see out the back window because of the stickers.

You can roll a softball down your tailpipe.

You can't see out the back because of the huge wing.

Your wheels extend 4" outside the wheel wells.

Your vehicle is decorated with Japanese characters you can't read.

You can't see out the back because of your reclined seat position.

You wear your visor upside down/hat sideways.

You can't go anywhere without your "Boyz".

You think "The Fast and the Furious" is the best movie ever.

You are camped out at the theater waiting for "Fast and the Furious 2".

Hey, all this is in good fun. I'd love to see how you got all that hp out of that car. The whole rice issue boils down to taste; some people do mods and get a Rolex, other do it and get a Timex.

Why not START with a good V-8 Foundation? Can't make
a silk purse outta a pig's ear !!! Through TONS of mods
into most of the imports and you MIGHT have a fast car,
but the majority of the time the Lightning's gonna getcha.

What I don't get is the "ricers" that put a **** load of money into a slow car to make them fast. Why not just get a fast car to begin with (US or import)?

I've got a couple of imports.

A 924 turbo and a 944 turbo.

Both bone stock, one quick and one almost fast.

My reason to start with the 4 is the fantastic gas milage and the fun to drive/handling.

The 944 is a 14.2 at 104mph AND 26 mpg @ 75mph

I respect any import tuner that can make a DEPENDABLE high hp driver. Did I mention both of mine are 15 and 20 years old with 138 and 192 thousand miles respectively.

Likewise the turboed 5.0 fairlane is darn impresive also! Wish they had a good setup with my fx4. THinking a magnacharger

I don't have a problem with imports or ricers, to each his/her own. I do however have a distinct definition of what a ricer is. A ricer is the dumb ars in the Honda civic that pulls up next to me, in rush hour traffic, in the rain, at night, while I am in my 96 cobra and revs his engine trying to get me to race him. To that I say, what's the point? I like a good race against a good car and most importantly, with the right conditions (on the track or secluded road). A ricer will race any car, any where, with any road conditions. I had a guy in a 3600 Firechicken race me form a standing start, 20 punch, and 40 punch, all at his request. When he asked to go form a 60 punch I issued him his "RICE card" and told him to go home. But on the other hand, you don't see me riding around in my mustang revving on Vipers and 911 GT2's. Like I said I don't have a problem at all, even when they try to race me, I just laugh and go on about my business. Life in a V8 can be funny sometimes.

it's all a matter of opinion. those who are fast i respect. those who spend their milk money on nothing but appearance...to each their own. it's not the import crowd who does this btw...i've seen those damn lowriders and sport trucks that are the same to me...bling bling this...baller that....all they end up doing is throwing candy paint and gold rims on a 1987 s10...to me that's just as bad.

as for starting with a good base....i dont believe a good foundation has to be a v8. take the supras....stout internals and 320 hp from the factory are all excellent reasons why there is such a strong following of them in the import crowd. other imports i would love to make project cars would be talon tsi's, eclipses gsx's, wrx's, turbo mr2s, etc etc....
