Question L vs C5 Z06

Hey my friend from school and i had an arguement about how the L would do versus a 405hp C5 Z06. this is when they are both stock. what about if the Lightning is chipped? its kind of a bet i've got going with him so i need all the help i can get!!!

Last time I went to the track, there was an 02 Z06 and an 01 Lightning and 01 L. The there 01 L ran a 13.6 with a chip, and the Z06 ran a 13.6, no idea if any mods. This was with both of them running street tires and lots of wheel spin and throttling. Not bad for a truck if you ask me. By the way, the Z06 had to stay behind me

Stock for stock, assuming equal driver skill, the Z06 will pretty much own the L. Pretty basic math, more horsepower in a lighter weight vehicle.

You're really comparing apples and oranges here though... the Z06 is a purpose built super-car competitor for European imports like Porsche and Ferrari...

It will take decent mods (pulley/chip/misc like filter etc) to run with a stock Z06.

Then again, a suck driver in a Z06 will run in the 14s due to wheelspin... especially if you psyche them out by being aggressive and trash talking at the start...

all depends on the driver.

get a 6lb lower, air filter kit, and chip and you should hold up pretty good even if he can drive it.

Talking

Stock for Stock they would own an L even if they had a bad launch after they hit second it would be over! You would need a 4lb'er , chip and filter to give it a good race.

Actually, if you can beat him off the line, just cut in front of him and don't let him pass. You should be able to win no prob.

I've owned both, like everyone else said, stock for stock, the Z06 will destroy the L. And it would definately take more then a chip in the L to keep up. In my 2001 L I had 423rwhp and the Z still feels stonger, mainly more on top end though. Also, i don't think having a bad driver in the Z06 would make up the stock for stock handicap the L has. Z06's are pretty dumbass proof. In its stock setup its actually pretty easy to get traction, but once modded its a different story, just like any other fast vehicle. I think a modded Lightning's strength would be getting a good launch and capitalizing on its low end and mid range power...... getting enough of a lead to hold off the Z on top end, because it will be pulling. These are just my opinions from racing and owning both of the vehicles in question. I love them both for being forces to be reckoned with on the street and strip.

My friend has a Z06 vette and he says his other car a Z28 is faster by far. Who knows, but I would think the other way around. But I'm just a messenger.
