Unhappy Dealer pulled code P0171 (short fuel parameter)?

Dealer just called and said my SES was being caused by a P0171 code (short fuel parameter). Just got off the phone with my tuner and he told me to try putting the stock oil cap back on and swithch back to regular oil instead of synthetic. What do you think? Just to recap this SES light started coming on when I switched the position of the MAS from the side to the upper position. It has been going on for about 4000 miles. Last time the code was read they said there was a vacuum leak in the boost solenoid. They just rerouted the wires for my boost by pass kit. Three weeks later now it came back on and they pulled this code up. WTF?

Why did you change to position of the MAF? If that is when the problem started, how about retuning it to the way it was before the problem started. Have it scanned again and see what comes up.

Still don't understand why people keep using the vented breather caps. The don't stop the oil in the intake and they let unmetered air into the motor. No flame intended, just do not understand the purpose/function.

Brasil- I HIGHLY doubt that the breather cap or the oil you are using causd that code to set. Rotating youMAF should not effect anything either. I would change the fel filter if you have not done so yet. Our filters have a tendancy to become clogged up quite fast. If the systems is restricte the PCM may bring a light on which has happened. Have them clear out the code chag the filter and see what happens. Good luck!

Wht,

actually a breather can cause a code, as its unmetered air you can set a few lean codes in the PCM. A quick change to the chip will fix it though.

Unsure why he is getting that code, but the first idea to put the oil fill back on is a good one. I assume he had chip burned with the breather noted...

fuel filter was changed 2000 miles ago. The breather cap went on at 10000 miles, the SES light started coming on at about 22500 miles. I rotated the MAS because I saw it in JDM's website in the instalation area, so I decided to put it upwards like they recommended. The SES came on 1 hour later. I tried putting it back on the original side but it still keeps coming on. By the way at 15000 miles I cleaned the S&B filter and I reoiled it too much, but if oil in the MAS is the cause of the SES light, why would the SES light up only 7000 miles later? The chip was calibrated for the breather cap. No codes came on when the cap went on. Thay now told me to put the original cap back on and said that I will be OK with the program in the chip. What do you guys think?

Like Brandon said the oil breather will/can set the SES light. The oil and rotating the maf will not...I'm sure it's the breather. Put your stock oil filler cap back on and reset the pcm. You should be fine....

Whomever told you that synthetic oil had anything to do with your SES light coming on(with a 'lean' code) is an idiot . I'd get my advice/help elsewhere.

FWIW, I have an oil breather on, chip, etc. too. And no, I'm not an Amsoil(or any other) distributor but I've been using different brands of Synthetic oil since Mobil brought out their's in the early 70s.

TUrning the maf will not cause a code, JDM does it to all of their trucks that come in as a signature that they worked on it, so if it was a problem everyone that had worked done there would have the problem which they dont =). Hope ya get it figured out, but again start with the oil cap, clear codes and drive it.

Hope this helps
