Looking for the radio
Looking for the radio
Rob_02Lightning in the "A Bad *******ng Wreck Who Died Anyone Here?" thread:
"I see the cops or the tow truck driver wasted no time stealing the radio, must be from NY."
Since the pic is from an Insurance Co. file, has it crossed your mind that perhaps the radio was lawfully removed at the junkyard; by the insurance company; might be laying on the floor just off of the photo; or any of several other reasonable explanations? This thread was about the horror of a high impact accident which appears to have, at the least, seriously injured someone if there was a passenger.
Rob_02Lightning has decided to take this opportunity to declare that police and tow truck operators are thieves. Being an active police officer with over 25 years of service, I take great offense to this accusation. I am well aware that my profession has it's percentage of "bad apples" as well as all professions do. I am also aware that our profession goes to great lengths to ferret out the "bad apples" and publicly prosecute them, unlike most other professions where "bad apples" are quietly ushered out of the back door.
Most police officers have a distrust of the public because too many people only seek our friendship hoping that we will be able to help them out when they get into a bind. After the attacks of 11 Sep 01 and the subsequent public calls for support of the police and my brothers and sisters in the fire and EMS services, I really began to think that perhaps I was wrong in my distrust of the public. And then along comes Rob_02Lightning with his statement and then I think, "no, I was right all along". Sadly, no one else challenged his statement.
I've been a lurker on this list since Jun 02 when I bought my L and from the posts it seems like most of the guys and gals that post are decent folks. Hopefully, you will understand why I had to respond to this pathetic accusation. I apologize for the length of the post and now step down from the soap box.

You want a tissue to dry your eye.Half the cops in the trade center were assigned to recover gold before victims. If you only knew the half of it.Speak for yourself.I was there.I also had a $3000 system stolen from me when my car it got towed away for being on the side of the road too long while brokedown.I got half the stuff back.Who had it you ask. Some punk who work at the yard.He claimed to have ripped it out the car cause he didnt want anyone to steal it .It was at his house in his room under his bed for safe keeping.Yeah right.
LIGHTSPD,
I totally agree with you. I hate the stereotyping that goes on in here, but like you said, the majority of people on this forum are good people, it's the less fortunate in the brain department that ruins the reputation. People say some pretty bold things behind a computer monitor and a keyboard. I doubt they would say those same words to your face. I won't say anything on this forum I wouldn't say to somebodys face.
Chimchady,
That was about the most classless statement I have seen on this forum.

as i understand it there was gold in the safes in the basement of the WTC. let me get this straight...
you were there, and you know for a fact, that two huge buildings fell down and the commanding officer split the police in to two groups and said "group one only searches for gold, group two only bodies".
it seems kind of odd that after something of this magnitude happens that you are the only one who speaks of this. seems to me like if this was the case the press would be eating it up.
but on to more important realevant things...
the lightning guy who made that post sure casts judgement quickly. i assume his truck was taken to a wrecking yard, which leads me to this question......
i wonder if he has ever been to a salvage yard? of all the ones i have been to it would be easy to slip through a hole in the fence and take whatever car parts you want. its a JUNK YARD, they dont put armed guards at it, ,and despite what the movies depict i have never seen big huge foaming at the mouth guard dogs.
perhaps it was someone who went into the junkyard and stole it. this can be especially true at high volume yards where cars come in daily.
if anyone has a problem with my post, dont break up the sentences and critique everything i just said with a witty comeback like i see so much these days.

dont mind the cops who solve crimes, help people etc.
i DONT like those that do nothing but sit on the side of the highways and ticket people to death. the only exception i'll give is if its DANGEROUS...and that includes speeding in icey conditions or going 120 in a residential. i DONT like those useless cops who feel like they're god because they can give you a 75 dollar ticket for going 75 in a 65...they're just a waste of my tax money.
just my opinion.

I agree with cyntaxx.
It doesn't do much good for the public to see police officers just cruising at 80-85 MPH on the interstate, then pull in and wait for somebody to do 75 MPH so they can give a ticket. Where is the justice in that? Just a way to line the insurance co. and justice department's wallet.
If anyone on here is a traffic cop, give tickets to those bastards that drive trucks with gravel and rocks spewing out the back, damaging every car in it's path.
As far as the radio, I give credit to whoever saw that it was missing. That's paying attention to the details.
Blame is not warranted.
Wedgewood256,
Their really are gaurd dogs at some junk yards. Yes the real killer type. Dobbermans, Pit bulls, and German Sheppards is the norm that I've seen at the junk yards that have mean *** dogs. Huge chains spiked collars and all.

Yeah, that's all they do is sit on the highway and give out tickets.
Give me a break. Maybe I'm in a bad mood tonight, but I can't handle the disrespect people give certain professions. If they wanted you to go 75 mph, then they would have posted the speed limit at 75 mph. If you go over the speed limit, then expect to pay. 10 mph over is about the limit they will give you.
My hats off to the Police that are out there working to make it a little better place to live. You couldn't pay me enough to go through what they do.

Did you ever think that the wrecking yard may have pulled the radio before it could get ripped off. That's one of the first things they do in a wrecking yard because of the ease that it can be removed. I could have that radio out in less that a minute.
yes but
a) don't you think it's a little hypocritical when they zoom past you at over 10mph over the limit without having much reason to (ie no lights, sirens...)
b) i guess you think the gov knows EXACTLY whats right for us correct? and you do EXACTLY what they tell you to?
c) i fail to see how pulling someone over for going 11mph over the limit on a highway on a sunny clear day makes "the world a better place"....

the day i give respect to those highway patrolmen and women and any police officer that pulls over speeders is when they pay up 75 bucks or more EVERY time they speed on their own good will.
a) You're making way to big of deal out of nothing. Not all calls are done with lights and sirens. Do you get a ticket everytime you go over the speed limit?
b) So who do you think should establish the speed limits? The local 7-11? I never said I always go the speed limit, but if I go over 10 mph over the speed limit, I know that I am taking a chance on getting a ticket.
c) The cops do a lot more than ticket people for over 10 mph on the highway. That point obviously went way over your head.
Sorry for sounding so pissy, but please think about what you are saying.

My Uncle's the President of the NY City PBA so don't talk to me like I'm an a$$hole, I know first hand what officers do and don't do. And BTW, I have never ever heard of a yard removing a radio, not around here at least. That accident was unbelievable and my heart goes out to the driver, who by the way wreaked a mustang 2 weeks after he got out of the Hospital in another accident. Don't take everything so personal. And by the way, I don't know what City your from, but here in NY, THERE ARE MORE THAN A FEW BAD APPLES and plenty of stolen parts cases when your car is towed or put in a yard.
But I will say I'm sorry and go on record to say I DID NOT DECLARE that police and tow truck operators are thieves.

[B]THAT was a pathetic accusation my friend. you distrust us because we try to befriend you in hoping that you may help us when we are under distress? wtf are you getting paid to do? last time i checked you guys were still considered "public servants" although that definition has lost its weight and accuracy over the years. you should be trying to help us "when [we] get into a bind" whether we're your pals or not. otherwise quit!
Cyntaxx,
I'm not referring to those that need true help, I'm referring to those that want to be my friend so that when they get a ticket they think that they can give me a call and get the ticket "fixed", not having to pay fines or points. If I was not willing to do what the public expects of me, I don't think I'd still be here after 25 years, you're right, I would have quit a long time ago. Your impression of police seems to be that we all sit along the highway waiting to pick on poor unsuspecting motorists who are speeding, even though that is violating the law. Ask yourself the question, "who was most likely the first person who arrived at the scene of the accident in the original thread? who had to make notification to the next of kin?" Those things are part of what we do too. The police officers that run traffic are an extremely small percentage of the police population.
Rob_02Lightning,
Look at your original post again, you did make a declaration. You claimed that either the cops or the tow truck driver took the radio. Apparently your area tolerates way too many bad apples in the police profession. Several months ago we arrested and sent to prison for 2 years a man, who was a police officer at the time, for manipulating his pay card and stealing taxpayer's money which was about the same amount as the value of your stereo that was taken from your car. As I said in my original post, I realize that we have bad apples in our profession, but don't lump us all in the same basket because of a small minority. Your apology in your second post is accepted.
