overdrive?

I hear all this talk about turning your overdrive off when racing, why? Does it also apply to (don't condone it) street racing?

Factory Tech says we don't need to turn it off as we won't be running fast enough for it to shift into it.

Having said that, I turn mine off(just in case it wants to shift?) and because being in third gear gives me some 'braking' help after going thru the traps.

I also turn mine off when at low speeds around town as my cold plugs misfire a little.
