Need an answer urgent please!
My SES came on again today. Will I cause any damage if I remove the chip without disconnecting the battery? I have an appointment to take it in tomorrow to read the codes. If I disconnect the battery to take the chip out it will clear the codes. So will it be OK to take the chip without disconnecting the batterry so when I get there tomorrow the SES is on without the Chip?
why not just buy/borrow a code reader/scanner to figure out what your stressing about, maybe all you did was leave the gas cap loose!
code reader was my first mod
and is well worth it for the stress relief alone

Hello brasil,
I'll start by letting you know that I am no expert on Lightnings. I am waiting impatiently on an 03.
But i do have a chip in my 97 Lariat and I have read enough of the,,,,,,,,,,,, "those sorry SOB's at Ford won't honor my warranty",,,posts to warn you about the chip issue.
I have read posts were folks have had that SES light come on and then remopve the chip and it seems to "go away". I am wondering if the techs may be able to relate the SES light back to your computer with the scraped off conformal coating and what could happen next.
If it were me I would remove the chip and reset my computer. Wait a few days to see if the light comes back on and then take it in. What ever you decide, be sure and put the black plastic cover back on the computer where the chip is taken off. Ford is getting pretty sticky about warranties here lately.
Rocks
Rock I have removed the chip and disconnected the battery, and the SES light comes on. I can't get the bastards to check my MAS to see if that has gone bad because they said that the codes last time did not point to that. Last time they rerouted the wires for my boost by pass kit and said there was a vaccum leak on the boost solenoid casing the SES to come on. Lets see what happens tommorow!
This issue began about 4000 miles ago long after any significant mod. The chip was reburnt for the 4# pulley and TR6's. I have JDM's stage 1 and 2 minus the TB.

I think it takes 3 or more ignition start for it to register a code - so you must not have cleared it properly???
disconnect battery, turn headlights on to drain any residual power for about 5-10 minutes, then re-connect battery and start it up???
