Question How many Lightnings out there blew motors?

I've seen a lot of posts about people blowing up motors and Ford not covering to fix it. How many of these trucks are blowing motors? Also, I've read a bunch of trucks blowing plugs which ruins the heads. Is this very common or only on heavily modded trucks?

Thanks,
Pete

Careful...if you ask these people with blown motors who tuned their trucks....your post will be closed. Some people around here get sensitive

This is common on lightnings but is not necessarily related to boost, as I have seen other trucks non supercharged do the same thing. expeditions and f-150s and such. in fact I have replaced heads on a few lightnings with this concern, and seen numerous more with loose plugs caught in time before plug launch occured. of the trucks I have put heads on, one had NO PULLEY, the other had only a #2.

later,
chris

When does a plug blow? Is it under WOT or at start up? I have a 96 Vobra now and check my plugs every few months and clean them off. Other than that what else should I have to do?

Mine plug,#5 made an early exit going 5mph and coming to a stop.
This was after a good ten miles of driving without boost.

The kicker is that i checked #5 just two weeks before with a cold engine and made sure it was tight.

I checked my plugs last night nad found 1 real loose, 1 starting to come loose, and 1 not very tight. The plugs had less than 10,000 miles on them. I am going to check more often.

I launched a plug under normal excelleration. This was with my 5lb pulley on, but I wasn't under that much boost, just accelerating from a stop light. When I went to pull the mods off and put in the stock plugs, I noticed a few of the plugs had loosened. I am kind of scared to put the 5lber back on now.

i belw mine. ate up 3 plugs, bent a vlave and put a nickle size hole in 3 pistons. JDM tuned superchip with an 11.78 A/F in the tables, 23 degrees of timing, and incorrectly calibrated for 90mm MAF. Mods were:

Intake
Flip Chip
4lb lower
90mm MAF
Crankcase filter
Boost By Pass
TR5 plugs
Traction bars
Driveshaft loop

So were you stuck with the bill or did Ford fix it under warranty?
