This may sound like a stupid ? but I've never used DOT slicks before. How do you know when they are no longer safe to use? Are they toast once you can no longer see any of the treads?

Ya I was just kidding. You will start to see the "belts" when the tire wears through, that would be a good time to stop. If there are still the little rubber slits in the ET Streets I would not worry at all......lots of life left still.

So you are saying that they will start to show the belts just as a normal street tire? That's what I wasn't sure of. Any idea how long after the grooves are gone that they will start to show? Thanks Soap.

If I remember correctly, there are wear indicators (the slits Soap speaks about). If the wear indicators are gone, I wouldn't run them anymore. I personally would not wait until the belts are showing through, but it is up to you. I just would not want a tire going down at the top end of the track. I would not want to find out what it is like to try to stop a 4700# truck (while keeping it straight) going more than 100 mph. I suppose if you are running tubes, then there is some added safety, but that is just my opinion.

The slit I commonly refer to has nothing to do with tires

I agree........running slicks on the belts is far from safe.

Sorry Soap, didn't mean to offend you. The slits I was referring to are part of the tire but not the tire grooves, and are separate 3/8" long slits around the tire which are used for wear indicators.
