Tranny Problems!!

Today i was drivng down the freeway and I tried racing a Trans Am from 3rd , about 70 mph (no lightning strikes) He seemed pretty modded but i thought u would be fun, when the tranny went for 4th it just stuttered and acted like it wanted to fall outta the truck. I noticed a leak the other day while puting on my exhaust so i figured it mus tbe REAL low on fluid. Well I check it soon as i stopped and it read DO NOT ADD, it seemed over filled. I have never had any tranny work done and theres about 7000 miles on the truck. Well i drive back to my appartment about 20 min away on the freeway... There was a roush that wanted to play so i turned overdrive off, and just played with him in 3rd, did not try to shift gears. When i pulled off the freeway i came to a stop sign and as i pulled away there where grinding sounds and it was haveing trouble shifting... almost back to the apartment it was shifting back and forth from 2nd to 1st at random (i wa s going about 10 mph) so i manually shifted to 1st and it seemed fine, i then shifted to 2nd and it seemed fine long as i didn't shift. whats going on? its going to the dealership tomorrow morning about 5 miles away... I checked the fluid and it was still over full.

Don't go to the dealer with mods on your truck

YZF - Lightning,
Not flaming you and I hope your truck gets fixed but you notice a leak and that does not send up flags. Then you are having problems and still race the Roush.
These are tell tale signs that something is wrong.
I hope when you hear pinging you let off.It is an expensive lesson to learn.

VINNIE

well like i said, i raced the roush but did not shift... plus when i checked the fluid it seemed fine... so i took as something else, maybe a 1 time thing... Once i got back and it started to to do the others thing i imediatly parked it. I plan on Ford fixing it because there is NO reason that that transmission should have any problems. I never go to the track, i've done aout 2 burnouts in the trucks life time, and the muffler and k&n filter do not up the horse power to any crazy levels. Right now i could care less if the tranny blows up and falls out, long as Ford comes and picks it up and slaps in a new one, thats why i bought a 100k warrenty

hurmm, possibly your vehicle speed sensor may be loose? usually the symptoms of that is very odd shifting, a flashing o/d light, and your speedo going wacky.. just a thought

I would check both the Output Speed Sensor and the VSS, though I'm not sure if it has a Vehichle Speed Sensor, but either one could cause it to be erratic, and both are pretty easy to fix. The VSS if it has one is on the differential, the OSS is on the extension housing.
Check the connections and the connectors.

My tranny was slipping going into 3rd when I had 24k on it so I took it in and they rebuilt it on warranty.

whoa whoa...this isnt a flame but i agree with vinnie. you sensed problems, even saw fluid on the ground and you raced not 1 but 2 times? even though ford might "slap in a new tranny," the way you're driving that 100k warranty will come in pretty handy.

There was no fluid on the ground, i have never seen any. There was a wet spot around the pan. Looked like a leak. Again the stick read full and the truck drove fine. So it NOT shifting into 4th a WOT, i thought could of been a flook. When i raced just in 3rd, it was fine... again thinking everything is well. Then i came to a stop and it started to shift gears and grind... i immediatly parked the truck at my appartment and did not move it except to the dealer.

I had the exact same thing happen to me. I had just installed JDM's longtubes and exhaust and the driver side header burned through the O2 sensor lead causing it to short out and my tranny acted the same way. I thought I had royally screwed something up. Luckily I was able to salvage the O2 lead with a little electrical tape and reposition it away from the header and everything was fine, however I now have a minor tranny leak and I can't seem to find where its coming from.

you all might want to have your trannys looked at before it comes close to end of warranty time.. or you will pay big time later down the road
