Sad... Put Lightning into Hibernation

Yep, I am having withdrawl symptoms already. This weekend changed the oil and filter, filled up the tank and put a bottle of Stabil in, washed her all up, cleaned my stuff out and transferred to the car, and then with much sadness disconnected the battery after pulling back into the garage for the winter. Now I will be driving my hotrodded 1984 VW GTI for the winter, after getting that back from the shop (needed whole new gas tank, ouch $$$) and putting steel wheels, Bridgestone Blizzaks and winter wiper blades on it and loading up the trunk with winter survival gear. Man, I tell ya you guys living below the snowbelt got it so easy! (I remember how it was years ago, was stationed in Abilene Texas for a few years). At least I will be saving miles on the L for awhile and can tweak on it over the long winter. Bummer. You guys n' gals who live in sunshine states will have to keep us Yankees cheered up for a few months!

Hey Eric,

Just curious what does a rollbar setup cost. Are you getting Lexane (sp?)? Just a ballpark will suffice........it's not like I need one.

HaHa mine is sitting on the side of the house under snow right behind my brother's which is also under snow. I would like to get one more track apperance in. Maybe Cecil or Atco next weekend.

Mods over the winter..... I would like to get a motor in there but I don't think my funds will be there. Who knows. -Mat-

It was about 70 today in SoCal. It should be in the mid to upper 70's by mid week. I might have to turn the A/C on!

A full roll bar install, including painting and lexan is usually somewhere around $1000. I am having mine built in chromoly, 2 swing out/take out bars(drivers/passengers) and keeping the factory rear window w/ lexan sides. Not sure of the total cost once I get the bar wrapped inside and the cover cut and fit, but I'm sure it's more than I have to spend.

I had mine put away but the weather was good enough to get it back out. No snow on the ground up here yet

Update! Got up this morning and these is heavy snow coming down... couple inches already. So on the way to work got a chance to test out my new Bridgestone Blizzak WS-50's. Wow! What a difference... It takes alot to impress me but I was tooling around like nothing in my little GTI, even before the plows were out or any salt of the road. Definitely worth the money!
Just glad I got the truck packed away in time, although I did get snow on it once... couple weeks ago suprise storm came through and my truck was at my girlfriend's place, while I was with her at her parents. Truck was stranded there for a couple days until it melted, drove home carefully avoiding salt and then ran right through a carwash. So, already my promise that the L would never see snow failed. Oh well, close call... got me in gear to get it ready for winter.
Oh, mods for this winter will be a 2lb. Lightning Force interchangable pulley, better plugs, boost bypass mod, and a JL Ram Air system. And maybe a tranny pan too if I get bored!
