straight pipes q's
straight pipes q's
i have a chance to get a set of custom-made straight pipes for my gen2. they're completely stainless steal and i believe the tips will be factory...it came off of a gen2.
my question is this:
i know i will lose significant backpressure from doing this, however i'm wondering if i'll see a noticeable power loss? will it be an actual "seat of the pants" feel or simply something like 393.7 instead of 394.0 rwhp on the dyno?
also, anybody run straight pipes on their L before? what sound should i expect...i mean i know it'll be LOUD but deafening??
thanks

even with stock 2.5 inch tubing? i wont mind the loudness
but i dont want to lose my power...if it's noticeable...
i've heard from someone running them that they felt maybe even a slight increase? could this be true? btw my truck isn't modded like all get out so i wont really need to get rid of any backpressure for a while i think....but again..i'm a redneck at heart and i loves me some exhaust noise!!

I took off my muffler about 2 years ago for straights. This is what happened.
Stock: 13.89@99
straights: 13.603@101
chip and straights: 13.17@106 w/ a 2.21 60'.
about 32,000 miles without the cork and the truck runs strong as hell.
The 5 ft/lbs-15 you lose below 2,000 rpms (or up to the rpm in which the muffler provides enough backpressure to make more power) will be more than offset by horesepower gains in the upper rom range because the motor will be able to move more air. That's what power is all about right?
