cats or no cats

has anyone deleted the cats on their L. any performance gain by doing this or loss ? hi-flows ? which are working the best? we drive a 01' L running 12.6 @ 109 with flowmasters 40 series and dont like the sound or performance gained if any. looking for a good quality cat-back system with or without cats if it will give more hp.

I am installing Bassani high flow cats & Bassani cat-back this weekend. Hoping to see a couple more mph in the 1/4.

i dont think anyone has gotten a performance gain with a cat back system.most people say it just changes the sound as mine did.i took my cats off with the stock muffler still on and it was LOUD!veryLOUD!lost low end torque and may have gained a very little top end horse power so leave them on.after you get your air filter,4 or 6 lb lower pully, and chip from jdm or other tuner save your money and buy a longtube exhaust system.

They wont hurt it at all, trust me. And you dont need sims, the light can be turned off in a CHip....

i put cut outs on mine in front of the cats, and jebus it was loud...i didnt notice any loss of torque on the lower end at all, but then again whos gonna notice 5ftlbs anyways? but i did feel it launch harder (so i thought)...whatever you lose on the lower end....you make up for in the upper rpms

btw, no chip...just using sims for now

I don't have any dyno numbers, but after I installed my bassani equal length headers , hi flo cats and catback mufflers, punching it from 15 or 20 mph lit the tires and burned them into second, the day before the truck didn't do that with the full stock exhaust, no chip or pulley on either.I had same set up 4 months ago but instead of hi flo cats i had the bassani off road pipes and it was way to loud , i didn't like it , it had a glass pack popping sound form 1/4 to 3/4 throttle , lite cruising and full throttle sounded awsome though. BTW I had to go back to stock for warrantty reasons.

Questionable

For questionable gains, do the environment a favor and run with cats.

I almost deleted a cat that jumped in through my sliding window last night.. does that count ??

Just my 2 cents but if you take them off.. dont throw em out or give them to the muffler man!!

The only thing taking the cats off will do is make a bit more noise and pollute the environment more. Just leave them on...they do not create any amout of significant backpressure
