Trans fluid

I was at the parts store for trans fluid for my factory tech vb I'm getting ready to install. Directions call for MERCON. I can't find just MERCON all I seen is DEXTRON III- MERCON is that what I'm lookin for.I hope I'm going to be able to do this myself, I'm a rookie with tools. I can't find anybody with an inch / Lbs. wrench to borrow either, hate to buy a tool I'll never use again. autozone rents them but there ft/lbs and metric no inchs

Yep that's what you need. I believe the dexron III part is for the gm spec's.

I took mine to a local 'jiffy-lube' and had them use their trans. fluid flush machine to chang mine. This way you get all the fuid out. You can't(ask Factory Tech) by just dropping the pan.

Sorry, I didn't notice you're changing the vb. But, even so, FT recommened you have it 'flushed' after putting the vb in.

MERCON is ussually labeled MERCON/DEXTRON III for retail sale, its the same thing.
On the torque wrench, I recomend the in /lb if you can get one, but if you must use a ft/lb, 8 lbs +/- 1 is about the same, just not as accurate.

Flushing is a good way to go, just draining the pan only changes less than half of the fluid you have, but if you're low miles, you can get by with just replacing the pan oil, it's not really that critical until you have about 30K miles.

Hope this helps.
