Before Pully, what should i do?

i'm thinking of getting a 3lb Pully (i found one really cheap) and i was wondering if i could just get it and slap it on the ole lightning, or should i do something else to make sure nothing goes wrong?

such as:

Trans Mod: i know i will have to do the trans mod, but i dont want to for a couple months (will the tranny be fine w/ the 3lb with out the mod?)

Spark Plugs: i know that the stock plugs can't handle the HP when you start modding the Lightnings, this is the mod that i would do before the pully, im thinking about getting the ones that PSP sell that they say can handle a 4lb pully and up to 100 shot of nitrous(the denso IT20's) and they say they get a smoother idle.

Chip: i know that you get the most out of your truck if you get the chip and program it for the lb of pully and other mods you have, but i dont really have the money to get it all at once, can i use the pully for a month or two with out the chip, then call and get one burned...??

thanks for the help guys

A local tuner here Razors Edge..put them in no problems.I even run a 5#lower and a 50 shot.Dont know too much about those other plugs but in my opinion save your money..If you decide to run a 6#er and a 100 shot of N20 you would want a colder plug..

TR6's here with a 4lb (5k miles) and eventually a 50 shot. I think anything colder might foul out during daily driving.

oh yea your other q's..

i'd get the pulley and wait and install it once you get the funds for a chip. its almost traditional here to do chip/filter/pulley since those mods really liven these beasts up. as for transmission, a lot of folks run gregg's factory tech vbody and i have not heard one complaint yet. so he must be doing something right! those mods should be a good starting point....thats what i started w/...

If you found a 3lb for cheap you should run away and tell me where! Go buy it and then decide when you have more money if you want a chip . But do the plugs at least with the 3lber.

well i've got a friend looking into the trans mod and plugs for me that is a dealer, so i'll probably go with the trans mod, the tr6's and the pully (if i get it).

TR-6's or IT-20's are fine for either #3 or #4.

You do not need any trans mods ever. A shift kit just shortens shifts to reduce temps/heat/wear. It is not a necessity. Hell there are some dudes running stock tranny's with just a shift kit that are running deep into 11's.

I don't think a chip is necessary but it sure is an awesome mod to do.

well, that's what i was thinking, i do want to get trans mod, to stregthen the tranny (and get the performance feel)

the chip i know if you want to feel the HP increase then that what you get, but i want to wait on that, so when i buy it i can allready get it programed for what i have.

and the plugs im definetly getting, because i know those stock plugs can not handle the HP.

TR-6's here with a 6 # lower. Runs great on the street, and not so bad at the track.

Not necessarily. I ran a 3 lber, chip, ram-type intake, stock exhaust, drag slicks, and the OEM plugs and got into the high 12s. It dynoed(then) at about 390/470. When I pulled the stock plugs at 18,600 miles, they were OK. I changed to the NGK BR7s when I put the 5 lber on.
